Like to hear your experiences with the various security products on the market...the ones to consider and the ones to stay away from.
As of this moment, I'm considering.the Alamx Immobillser 19mm chain and the Abloy lock...they're both monsters!

i use 3 different systems i have a disc brake lock i also use a 1/4 cable (in plastic), know what i mean? with a hugh masterlock--this is for quick runs into the store, in a heavy traffic area. then i have a 3/4" link chain with a hugh masterlock also-- --this is for when the trip in the store is gonna take longer
so disc brake lock and one of the chains but overnight or when im not gonna be home it gets all 3, but the 3/4 link chain goes around the floor board tight as i can get it, then the other end goes around the gas meter--lol

I have seen that system that is awesome but expensive! I have seen something similar at a Cycle Gear store in Florida.

You can go with this chain from Lockitt (still 19mm) for about half what the Almax would cost, and because the company is in the U.S. you won't pay the whopper shipping costs. (also check out their line if German made locks as the made-in-Finland Abloy is about $265.00) lockitt.com/Lockitt/category/BNPS19.htmlP.S. I'd go with the six foot (2m) version. But remember these chains weigh a TON, so keep that in mind if you intend to travel with it.

You can see a portion of my security system here: The additional security is also there but not pictured. When not at home the bike gets parked on the main stand with the parking brake locked (most bikes don't have this and I'm thinking the people stealing it won't know about it either) steering locked and security flap closed. At the office it just gets parked in front of my window. Sometimes I leave the keys in it at home or the office. Actually at home the keys are often left in it that way i don't have to look for them.

It was difficult to tell, but I think all the chains in that video were less than 14mm. Secondly, if you use a chain, it's best not to place it where the thieves can use the ground as leverage.

I would think in most cases I'd find a place to park the bike right up against a pole or something...only needing the 3.3 ft version. Btw...which German lock are you referring to ?

Here's my plan...tell me if you see any holes in it. I planned on using the Almax chain with the Abus 362 Lock at home...I have a private house but no garage. Now, instead of lugging that thing around when I was doing some shopping or a movie, I thought of getting a disc brake lock. It does leave me vulnerable from someone taking it on a truck and driving off. Or is that scenario not likely in a high traffic area like a shopping mall or movie theater? Btw...Abus 362, which is arguably the best pad lock on the market , I've seen on Ebay for $112 + shipping. www.ebay.com/itm/GENUINE-ABLOY-362-HIGH-SECURITY-HARDENED-BORON-PADLOCK-/330851501078?pt=UK_HaG_Lock_Safes_GL&hash=item4d08494416

If I'm going to leave my scoot for any length of time (shopping etc.) I bring along a Onguard "Bulldog" chain (at 16 Lb still pretty daunting to a would be thief.) a wheel lock and I switch on the alarm system. There is NEVER any guarantee even after all that against it being taken, but more than likely they'll move on to an unprotected scoot, wouldn't you?
P.S. you mean Abloy....just make sure it's the real deal.

No guarantees of course...just trying to minimize the chances. I've considered an alarm, but do they run down the battery?
Btw....Not the Abus 362...it's the ABLOY 362 My bad!

I have a Bully alarm lock with pager. it's a U-lock I put through my tire with attached alarm. Very loud. Also will notify you via one way pager if the alarm is activated. Of course this is probably more of a deterrant then anything as it could be loaded up and hauled away. But works very well and will turn heads if someone activates the alarm hopefully spooking them enough to go away.

Thanks spandi....That did cross my mind...The local locksmith would not be able to make extra keys for me. The keys are so unique that it might be an issue if I were to lose them....
For my shopping ventures....its probably best I go with a lighter lock and chain and an alarm. If its a quick in and out, I can see just using the alarm. If I were going to spend a longer amount of time in a store, than use both. Or is that being lazy? ;D

Look at it this way. it's a pain to do, but would you prefer coming out of the store and finding no scoot?

Heel & Toe Locking - stainless steel ball bearing deadlock the shackle at both ends for a strong hold. Rotating Disc Cylinder is virtually pick proof and provides extensive keying capabilities.
