I just bought my first scooter Motobravo 150cc Super Hornet, MP-150-LKY2. Its a 2011, purchased Dec 24, unknown miles as it has 0 miles probably due to cable being broken since the first owner purchased. I was wondering if anyone is familiar with these, I could use some help ;D The speedometer doesn't work, and from a friend looking at it the metal cable inside the speedo cable is broken. I've been having a hard time hunting for a place to get parts. I think I found a place in Illinois that can sell the parts. It can backfire pretty load sometimes when letting off the throttle, is this normal for scooters? Most of the time it is pretty small crackling. I was reading elsewhere that backfire/crackles are a normal part of scooters. Also, when I filled up the bike for the first time (I bought Dec 24 and have only just got my license and safety gear; Texas laws) the gas started leaking out of the side. Is this some overflow safety? Because the gauge still showed that it was full afterwards. The fill cap is inside a storage compartment and I filled it to was being visually full. I'm guessing this is to prevent from filling up the storage compartment with gas? Thanks for any help or suggestions! **I'm willing to work on the bike myself. Up to this point I've only done work on cars and this is pretty unfamiliar to me.

Backfiring is a lean condition, you have a leak somewhere either vacuum lines or could be a loose exhuast gasket leak, or someone has the air/fuel ratio screw set too lean, what is the rpm's set at idle? Also there is a overflow hose on carb, I'll post pic.

Look for the fuel bowl drain attached to the CVT cover on the lower left rear of the scooter. It should have a screw in it that may have vibrated loose. Tighten it with a flat screwdriver or it'll empty your tank while your running.

Hi everyone, I went and checked my bike and it started up at 2k rpm and then dropped to 1k and stalled, the second start I revved it up some and it stayed running at 2k or a little more. So how would I check for vacuum line leaks? richard, what was supposed to be looking for with the overflow line from the carb? Backfiring is a lean condition ...and also a RICH condition. I tend to agree on this, the fumes are pretty strong of gas while it is running. carb from left side of bike Air intake area... How hard would it be to use a universal cable for the speedo? The speedometer cable was fixed. From the looks of it it wasn't lubed in factory at all and binded within the first mile. The universal car speedo cable mostly worked. Generic Pontiac cable from Autozone I believe. Was about $5. The square end for guage was easy but I didn’t have the head for down at the wheel. It needed a slotted end to mate with the flathead like end in the wheel assembly. The guy who helped me was brilliant and fabricated one from the square end that came with the cable and I think a metal gear that fit around it. Tedious measuring and grinding and I have a working speedometer and odometer. Especially happy about that part.
Trying to look into the fuel mixture. Haven't had time to check the hoses yet. The tailpipe seems to be securely and mounted flush, but maybe I just don't know what to look for.

An exhaust leak can make it backfire too.

So I've looked at the tubes and there isn't any noticeable cracks. The tubes are fairly new and flexible. How would I check if the exhaust is leaking? Disconnect the tailpipe and look at the seal? I looked up adjusting the mixture and when I got to the bike I couldn't find a mixture screw, or at least not where I was looking. The spot where I was expecting the screw was flush brass. I only saw the idle adjustment. I inspect the sparkplug and I'm not sure if its rich or lean. It is a ngk plug. The brassy spot on the bottom left of the carb is where i was expecting the mixture screw. Where else would it be? Sorry, i just realized this isn't the best angle of this side of the carb.
