I've had my brand new Aeolus since about end of April. Today I changed out the OEM plug on it with the NGK DR8EIX as recommended here on the forum and at .030 gap.
I thought I would check the gap of the OEM one as soon as I got it out to compare to the new one. I don't know what they are supposed to be off the line, but the gap on mine that looks really fairly new checked out at .026 with a feeler gauge. Needless to say I was surprised.
Ok, so, I hopped on it, rode it about 1/3 mile up to the corner store, not really far enough to get very warmed up I guess. Seemed to notice 1. easier starting. It had become a "little" harder to start lately with the cooler weather we've been having and 2. "something" not sure if it was better acceleration or response or whatever.
So, an hour or so later tonight I go to eat dinner with a friend, and by 1/2 mile HOLY CRAP...my internal "g" meter definitely noticed a difference!
My scooter always in the colder more dense night air feels like it has a small turbo boost, but this felt like double that or so....
So, my understanding from my former race car driver friend is that maybe with the larger gap more fuel ignites all at once, than before when it was .026 therefore giving more oomph.
I haven't even gotten to doing a valve adjustment yet and I'm at just over 3k.
I'm wondering if this change with the spark plug will equate to any noticeable mpg increase.
So, just thought I would post about this in-case anyone running their OEM spark-plug on their Aeolus 300 or equivalent might want to check their gap. (requires 18mm deep wall socket for removal)
