Hi this is my first post, I just purchased a 2012 Jonway 250cc scooter. I live in michigan and it's getting cold. It has only 300 miles on it, bought it yesterday.
I know it's liquid cooled, Do I need to do anything for the winter? I have a cover for it but if I start it regulary will this be good? I plan on riding it when Its not bitter out or snow on the ground...Michigan ya never know!
Do I need to somehow remove the factory coolant? or will that be ok? I dont want the coolant to freeze. I understand from youtube it's like a form of washer solvent? alcohale?
I just dont want nothing to happen to it. Got a great deal on it.
Thanks

Just protect it from rain, each day start it and let it idle for 10 minutes.

Thank you so much for the quick reply! So I should be good with the factory coolant until spring? Thanks!

you should change all factory fluids before you ride it brake, gas, coolant, oil, gear oil.
id do this now, if you have a warm place to do it. its part of the PDI

Not sure where to begin on changing the coolant or I should say don't know the procedure.
As for the oil can I use 10w40 motor oil or does it have to be motorcyle oil?
And antifreeze the same as used for autos?

Letting it idle will just build condensation in the exhaust, it would likely rust out from the inside within a year. I have had my Jonway 250 since Mar 2008, with over 12k mils on it now. My exhaust is rusty on the outside. I live in PA, we don't ave harsh winter like MI, but I try to ride my scouter at least once or twice over the winter months, get the engine started and let it idle for maybe 2-3 minutes the most and ride off. Keep the engine reading nicely between 4-5k rpm a nice 5-10 mile ride. Stabil is a good additive to fuel, if you ride less than 200 in the whole winter, from Nov to Mar.

Not sure where to begin on changing the coolant or I should say don't know the procedure. the only bad thing about changing coolant is the thermostat. a closed thermostat will not allow for a fast coolant change. i removed my stat shortly after i got my scoot and coolant changes are a snap. remove the hose from the water pump and allow to drain. after all the fluid drains blow into the hose to force the rest of the coolant out. leave the pressure cap on during this process. replace the hose and refill with coolant then "burp" the system. i've used nothing but valvoline car type oil in my ride. put NO MORE than 1000 miles on a change, preferably 500 to 800. yes, car type antifreeze will work but BE CERTAIN than it is silicon and phosphate free. it must be safe for aluminum engines. a 50/50 premixed name brand will work for most riders. if you need a different ratio then buy the concentrated antifreeze and mix it yourself with distilled water.

Well, really if we have another mild winter, you may be able to ride it some.. It has been mild so far, for Missouri. No snow yet.. Temps do get chilly for 2 days straight and than right back up in the 60's and 70's with clear skies... I am leaving mine outside for riding.. lol Just cover with a tarp on chilly days..

fuel stabilizer ??
i have a 0.9 gal gas tank so i use 1 oz each fill up
you dont say if it's going to be stored outside under a cover or in a heated or un heated garage
all this makes a diff.

;D Mine is a 3 gallon tank, so I use 1 ounce per gallon. Mine is a marine fuel stabilizer. SeaFoam is what it is called.. Pretty good stuff.. Attachments:

I dont have a garage so It will be outside with a cover unless I rent a heated storage unit. I plan on riding as much as I can weather permitting. Saturday, Sunday, Monday temps in Michigan in the 60's. That's Michigan for you, you never know what to expect. Thanks guys!
