So this is my airbox and inside it is just a 1/4" thick piece of foam. The foam is two layers, a coarse outer and a finer inner layer and it's cut to the shape of the airbox. It just seems odd that this big airbox has such a tiny filter. Does this seem right to you? www.iscooterparts.com/store/p/503-Air-Box-Assembly-RR250ZRX.html

nothing out of the ordinary at all! Air filters are relatively thin by design regardless of the material they are constructed from. Consider that even high priced and high performance filters are made with paper.

On the foam filters it is the coating of sticky filter oil that protects you.
I am getting partial to the spray on variety of filter oil at this time. To clean the filter just wash it in warm soapy water with no solvents and such that will break down the filter material, rinse, dry, spray on the oil and work it in a bit to even it out before putting it back in the housing.
