Just curious to see what people wear when out scooting, on both short rides and long ones.
Even on short ones I wear a helmet, 1.5mm leather armored mc jacket (I take the thermo liner out in sumer) , MC gloves, regular jeans, sneakers. I have just bought some kevlar jeans and I am saving up to buy MC boots.
After seeing pics of people with gravel rash, I would rather have people laugh at me looking like I'm gearing up to ride an R1 or Busa than leave half my skin on the road.

I'm saving up for a jacket and chaps. I wear a heavy jacket, jeans, gloves and the best helmet I could afford at the times. No skid lid here! I have a buddy that is trying to find his "extra" shoe(sp?) helmet and I can't wait.
If I had my choice, I'd have all white leathers and a "stig" helmet. I think it would be funny if people saw "The Stig" riding a little red scooter.
I can't wait to get a leather mc jacket as what Im wearing can get pretty hot.
For boots I wear my steel toe work boots.

I would say a good mc jacket is a good investment but cortech is far better in nearly every way than leather I have ridden with leather in the past and I will never go back. I still have nice leather for occasions when I need to look cool

I'll book mark them. The prices look very reasonable for what I want. I do like the idea of armor instead of just leather. Has anyone here tried wearing the armor? How comfortable is it? Is it something that is better tried on before you buy it or can you buy it from the internet with good results?

Definitely try it on. As far as armor I have had 2 armored jackets and they are comfortable year round. Buy locally if you can keep the local guys alive

Actually, I think I'm gonna buy local. I really owe Norcal scooters one. They have been sooo cool. I went over kicking tires one day, and they were awesome, and very pleasant. They really had only the Vintage 150's in stock and it wasn't the scooter I was interested in originally. I wanted more of a touring design but the quality was so much better then my buddies Shanke and I was really impressed with the scooter in person that I decided that it was what I wanted. I just didn't have the funds, yet but I knew where I was gonna buy it. In the end tho, I found one on craigslist for 500 bucks. I've been over to Norcal since and even tho I didn't buy from them, they were still awesome to me.
He even looked at our bikes (they did come from his shop originally) and really made us feel welcome. Just a great little shop.
My buddy Kevin bought some used stuff from them as well for his Shankie (they had one they were stripping for parts in the back)

This question was asked on another forum I belong to as well. Must by the season LOL.
I'm not going to give you any particular names or brands because I don't believe that matters as much as what your comfortable in, the quality of the product and what you can afford.
I'm very happy with my Vulcan jacket and over the ankle non-slip/oil resistant boots from Wal-mart where as another rider will tell you to buy AlpineStars and FLy Sports. Frankly if your like me you have to balance the cost of your gear with your budget. I bought my jacket on Closeout from Motorcycle Superstore. My gloves from a local dealership. My Bell Helmet came from Bikebandit.com I realized that helmet wasn't going to cut it so I found a full face helmet at a local dealer. It's a Fulmer.
My only suggestion is to buy quality gear, something that will last and will surely protect you if you go down. The jacket should be at least 1 size larger than what you normally wear so you can wear layers under it in cooler weather.

Nothing but sunglasses; that's all what the law requires in FL ;D Hi With stipulations The Actual Florida Helmet Law: 316.211(3)(b) -- Notwithstanding subsection (1), a person over 21 years of age may operate or ride upon a motorcycle without wearing protective headgear securely fastened upon his or her head if such person is covered by an insurance policy providing for at least $10,000 in medical benefits for injuries incurred as a result of a crash while operating or riding on a motorcycle. Why is it that you wont wear a helmet? theres no bad side and only good if things go south and you need the protection Take care and ride safely dear friend Yours Hank

Actually, now and then I wear my gloves on my 50cc. I also wear jeans, though not much, they're still somewhat a protection against road rash, and may be just enough for a 30-40mph drive On my 260 I always wear helmet, vest, boots, and jeans.
One reason I never wear a helmet on a 50cc, is because it's South Florida here. Anyone who hasn't been here during spring or summer, should know if you can do without, do without. Besides, police officers NEVER stop someone for not having motor insurance while driving without a helmet around here. They know almost no one on a 50cc has insurance, and still drive without helmet.
Visit FL! Preferably in the summer, with a helmet on, and you know what I say! It's more dangerous wearing one than not wearing one, one due to the heat, another due to sweat going in your eyes, distracting your driving etc...!

I was been stubborn and hard headed ( just like him LOL ). I kept telling him it's really hot and humid here in the Philippines, that I am wearing eye glasses that's not fit into my helmet, that I am just driving short distances which I don't need to wear helmet... BUT I had several accidents which made me realized I need some protections. Since then I am wearing my helmet and elbow pad, jacket, jeans and rubber shoes...

I can't ride with-out I've got a family depending on my well being. Full face, elbow protectors, knee protectors, over the ankle shoes, gloves with reinforced palm area. And that's in the summer, I won't ride in short pants anymore either. Then there's the pre-ride once over, checking on the things your about to trust you life to. You know it's all fun till you get hurt. I hyper-extended my knee on a dirtbike many years back, it really sucked for a long time. Ended my life as a skier. And then there was the broken clavicle coming down the ski runs in summer on my Mt-bike, we stopped and had hot dogs before going to the ER. These type of injuries can change your life forever and if you're to LAZY or STUPID to care.. Good luck to ya. Why do people worry what someone they will never see again might think about them so much? Wear your gear, it's cool man.

I live in a desert and in the summer it is quite warm. I think I stay cooler with gear on, due to the vent system, than without. It is NEVER to hot for gear. I can assure that jeans won't protect you from asphalt even at walking speed. Asphalt is designed to be quite abrasive...
ROAD RASH SUCKS if you've never had it there is only one way to make sure you stay that way...

A month ago, when I went down at night at 40 mph to miss a bicyclist, I was really glad I was wearing Scorpion EXO 400 helmet, Scorpion Commander hi-vis armored jacket which covered and padded my hips, leather gloves, Icon knee armor beneath riding overpants, and River-Road riding boots.
I ended up with a broken ankle, but -- it beats being killed.

I got the classic mc jacket from leatherup. A mc is vastly different from a flight jacket, which I used to wear. The mc jacket only cost $69 but it I love it.

I am a daily commuter and ride regardless of the weather. A decently ventilated light colored helmet and light colored mesh armor are cooler in the Florida sun than riding in shorts and a t-shirt. Minimum here is full faced modular helmet, light silver CE Level 3 armored jacket with back protection, riding boots and carbon fiber armored mesh gloves. It is too hot here to ride without the gear to protect you from the direct sun. I was a non-believer until SilvreKat kept after me to amend my ways and now I see the light and know that the right gear makes hot weather rides easier to take. Your bare flesh making contact on a Florida road can sear to it and be left behind in even a minor crash.
