No option for helmet, jacket, gloves and boots?
Once you have seen someones foot after their footware has slid off in an accident you won't want to ride without the boots. Picture a foot split between the toes all the way to the ankle.

Nothing but sunglasses; that's all what the law requires in FL ;D Hi With stipulations The Actual Florida Helmet Law: 316.211(3)(b) -- Notwithstanding subsection (1), a person over 21 years of age may operate or ride upon a motorcycle without wearing protective headgear securely fastened upon his or her head if such person is covered by an insurance policy providing for at least $10,000 in medical benefits for injuries incurred as a result of a crash while operating or riding on a motorcycle. Why is it that you wont wear a helmet? theres no bad side and only good if things go south and you need the protection Take care and ride safely dear friend Yours Hank Getting the required $10,000 in medical benefits is where the rub comes in. It is an expensive add-on under comprehensive coverage here in Florida so by default most insurers mark it as declined and leave it to your health insurance to cover it however many health carriers now exclude motorcycle and scooter injuries as outside their coverage blanketing them under the exclusion for extreme activities. Some policies regular health or even under motorcycle comprehensive will only cover your injuries if you are wearing a minimum of DOT helmet, leather or motorcycle jacket, long pants (don't have to be armored or kevlar), motorcycle gloves and over the ankle boots. Bottom line in Florida is, if you are not paying for comprehensive coverage which can raise the cost of your policy $1,000 or more per year per bike then you are required by law to wear a helmet or carry a health policy that cover injuries to riders without helmets along with the rest of the required safety gear. Most don't seem to be reading the fine print of the restrictions for going without a helmet and how their insurances most likely won't cover them if they don't, leaving them outside the law and any compensation when they ride without a helmet.

Ever see a watermelon tossed onto a highway? If you haven't, just imagine it. That's the human head. Wear your helmet.

Helmet, eye protection unless full face, leather jacket, leather chaps, leather gloves, leather 8" boots. I like my tattoos, my legs, my ability to speak and feed myself, and my good looks too much to do the flip-flop and swim trunks idiocy.

All The Gear All The Time.
Modular helmet (easier with glasses), white and pink mesh jacket (included a windbreaker and quilted liner) with armour at shoulders, elbows, and back, silver mesh pants (ditto) with armour hips and knees, various hiking boots (come over my ankles), mesh gloves with knuckle guards and extra padding on the palms.
This 'Kat really prefers her skin where God put it, and not left on the road anywhere. Gosh, just a bad rug burn hurts enough, and that's just walking (and the jeans don't seem to prevent it). I don't EVER want to know what even a slight road rash hurts like.
I also have a white leather jacket and white gloves (equally armoured/padded) 'cause they're really really cute. And Mom found me a red non-mesh fabric jacket (with quilted liner and armour) that matches my scoot pretty well. But I'm partial to my pink. Call me a girly-girl, I guess.
Got 'most everything from powersports4less, except the white leather from ironpony. Both are online. Everything was on sale, so the prices weren't that high. Got the red jacket at Reno's here in the metro, also on sale. Oh, helmet did come from VanWall as part of my scooter purchase--got to choose any helmet they had for free.

I was a non-believer until SilvreKat kept after me to amend my ways and now I see the light and know that the right gear makes hot weather rides easier to take. I didn't remember pestering you that much, nor that you changed your mind because of me. But I'm glad. I don't want even online friends I've never met and don't know outside this forum to suffer worse injury if they should happen to go down. |‹* to you, hon'. >'Kat

I'm gonna search the forum for best online places to shop and see what people have come up with (assuming that has been asked).

deals are always hard to find
what you do to do wutz is go to alot of sites and get on their mailing lists, which means alot of mail in your in box but you will get notified of deals. instead of hunting for them and maybe missing a deal by a day or so

wutz, on powersports' site you click on the hot deals in the top menu bar.
Ironpony, I think I googled my jacket 'cause powersports only had a cream one left, one size too small. So I already knew what exactly I wanted. I either found them through eBay or Google, don't remember which now. But I'm sure they also have a clearance section on their site.
Once you buy from them, then they both email you discounts, and ironpony send you the special deals going on. They also mailed me a catalog twice a year for a few years, 'til I didn't buy anything else, ha.
Just grazed powersports' site, there's a totally adorable pink Fieldsheer textile jacket clearanced for $115, includes armour and a full-sleeve quilted liner. There's probably better deals, that just caught my eye (girly-girl, remember?)

Here's a suggestion for you, wutz, and the other manly-men on the site. Tell your wife/girlfriend/sister/female coworker/female bare acquaintance what you want. Let them do what women do best (shop), then report back to you and let you do what men do best (buy, and resent the fact that what they want isn't already in the house when they decide they want it). >'Kat

Found a few sales and ended up at Leather Up getting their Silver Ignitor CE3 Armored Mesh riding jacket for $59, Hawk Modular helmet for $69 ($100 off) and a pair of Carbon Fiber gloves for $29. That was almost 2 years ago and I have ridden just about every day since then always wearing my gear. It now just does not feel right riding off without it. I have a Cycle Gear outlet near by and am now on their mailing list so the notices about sales come to me so I don't have to go looking. Signed up at Motorcycle Super Store and Leather-Up also to get email alerts of their sales and promotions. The only thing I have yet to find is affordable leg protection in colors appropriate for the Florida sunshine. Have been after the manager of the local Cycle Gear to get some Florida appropriate gear in instead of all the basic black stuff. Thankfully that adorable pink number don't come in a size 48/50. Might work out for my "Mild Piglets" scooter gang. That is what the 1.5 to 2 liter cruiser riders call us.

rocky, my Tourmaster mesh pants are silver. That would be fairly decent for FL. Seems to be cool enough here in huggy KS (that's hot'n'muggy, for those of you not in humid areas). Might check into if they're still around.
As for the adorable pink jacket, you'd look so (Rudolph the RNR voice) CUTE (cheek pinch) riding in one. Are you sure they don't have XL or XXL?
>'Kat, enjoying her mental image of rocky the Mild Piglet in his adorable pink. "She said I'm CUTE!"

JP Pilot Series helmet (soon to be replaced by a Davida Classic), Smith OTG goggles, Belstaff Knockhill Vintage Trialmaster leather jacket, Alpinestars Octane leather gloves, Double-H double-zip motorcycle boots, leather biker wallet from The Alley in Chicago, Luminox 3050 "Navy SEAL" watch (fastest, safest, brightest way to check the time in pitch darkness - no need to turn a light on). Oh, yeah ... and Wrangler carpenter jeans (best for my vintage 2004 cell phone). Cool stuff for women here: www.gogogearla.com/

Picture a foot split between the toes all the way to the ankle. +1 Next picture the dozen or so metal bits of hardware being used inside that foot to clamp it all back together. Six months to a year or so later revisit on how they will be removing some of those bits so parts that have to move can start moving again.

Kat I have been looking at the Tourmaster or Fieldsheer. Now if I could find them in both sizes that I need. Have a 36 inch waist so I would need size 38 to wear as overpants to fit the body and around $50 to fit the wallet.

Look up the story of MSF Instructor Brittany Morrow othewise know as the road rash Queen. Here are the very graphic pictures of what happened before she started wearing her gear faithfully. The scars are basically permanent. The only gear she was wearing was a full face helmet which saved her life: www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTPpKuaWaRYNow go and ride without your gear.

I ride with a light helmet, only because of the law. Risk Compensation and StatisticsI do not want to feel safe. I do not want protection. I want to be afraid. Fear keeps you safe.

I wear a helmet with face shield for protection plus i cant stand wind in my eyes and gloves. Its not required to wear a helmet in my state but it doesn't even feel right not to wear it now, i wear it even if its 100 degrees out.

It has been a good life. I am 66, I have had two heart attacks, triple by-pass, an ICD under my skin, I had a stroke. I was riding 2 wheels before 1950, on the streets before I was 8. I had low-sides and a high-side on pedal bikes. By the 1964 I learned that it was better avoid 'accidents.' I have never needed 'gear'. I rather to continue riding the same way, avoiding needing gear. I do not want to be "safe" and need the gear to survive -- I prefer knowing that I must not crash. I do not need your wishes or prayers and mostly I do not need the preaching. Ride Your Own Ride. I don't ask you to ride like I ride. Please ask me to ride like you ride.

Wearing a helmet makes you safer, which has you riding faster, taking more risks. Risk Compensation happens. Same as cooking bacon. Cook naked -- it teaches you do keep the heat low. If you want to have fun riding, you will probably want to wear gear. I do not ride for fun. I ride because I dislike being in a cage.

Praying for someone is a personal choice, no different than your choice of not wanting to wear a helmet...You want people to respect your choice? Then, respect the choice of those who pray.
