I have been offered a JMStar Shanghai 250 Scooter with only 158 miles on it for $775.00. This would be my very first scooter and so I am looking at an entry level machine to see if I would want to invest in a higher end scooter later. I've read lots of mixed reports about the Chinese scooters and am taking that into consideration. Is $775 a fair price? THANKS!

The unfortunate answer is maybe. What year is it?? Does it run? How long has it sat? Titled and currently registered in your state?? Why are they selling?? Mixed reviews on these result from extremely mixed standards of quality at the factory...

It's a 2008 and is titled and registered. I will ask about how long it has sat when I go look at it. He is selling it to raise money for a friend with breast cancer. Also, I suspect he's not riding it much given the mileage. I'm bringing my husband with me so he can check that it runs. Any other questions that you can suggest that I ask the seller? I'm a good bargainer and great car shopper, but I don't know much of anything about scooters.

Are you or your husband mechanically inclined? Chinese scooters require regular maintenance. Nothing hard nor expensive (relative to a car), but there should be someone around who knows a piston from a petcock. $775 sounds reasonable to me, if it has no major mechanical issues. At least it's not an outrageous starting point.
