Hi, I'm glad to have found this site! TOTALLY new to scooters and have just purchased a pretty clean 05 Oliver 50 with 750 miles.
Am beginning to research some of the known issues- namely low power (35mph max down hill/tailwind) and oil injection/pump not working (running pre-mix until I resolve the oil pump issue).
I understand that the stock 50cc Oliver should do upper 40's mph to 50mph- can anyone confirm this?
Supposedly the scooter sat for a few months with older fuel so this was drained and refilled (half tank) with non-oxygenated, hi octane and treated with carb cleaner solution. Starts and purrs fine but just no power past 30. I will run the remainder of the tank of pre-mix + carb cleaner to see if this helps but expect that a carb rebuild will be in the offing...
I'll continue to look at past postings but if anyone has any sage advice to offer for this power problem I would be most grateful.
Cheers, JG

Hi Hank, Thank you very much for the quick response. I'll check the sites you recommend.
I'm definitely just getting started and have so many basic questions so I think I've landed in the right spot. Making matters worse is that there are no CPI dealers in the Minneapolis area.
I'm also looking around to see if there are any aftermarket drawings or technical documents of the Oliver engine- that appears to be an effort in vain so far.

Hi Scuttadawg- thank you very much for the link!! I was beginning to think there was nothing whatsoever in print.
Today we start pulling panels to get at more of the motor assembly and the drawing will come in handy.
Our primary suspicion at this point is that the oil feed line to the carb is blocked or that the oil pump isn't working. There is a dark brown hose (top right of photo) running from under the oil tank to the top of the carb and we are thinking this is the offending oil supply line. We'll see.
We also noticed that the throttle linkage cable is kinked where it enters the carb.
