My 09 Sport City has 6500 miles. It sat for almost 6 months and for some reason it's not wanting to down shift into second gear. It still pulls fine on top end it just isn't gearing down. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Inuyasha this is going to probably sound stupid to you, but does the oil have to be drained to check the CVT?

Hi Your most welcome Here's a mechanism designed to mimic and explain the operation of a CVT Take care and ride safely Yours Hank The CVT system shown on the video, is usually not the one found in low end chinese scooters. The CVT does not 'downshift' depending on load, but the cheap chinese scoots usually have a cvt based on centrifugal force (or engine RPMs).

It is still a basic CVT Engine with Fuel Injection using similar electronics to a Ducati Sports Bike. First verify that the fuel pump service bulletin has been performed before you start chasing other items by calling Aprilia and having them look up your bikes status using the VIN. This 1 to 2 hour service is free and can cause starting and drivability issues if left unattended. You may find that you just have a partially clogged fuel injector and just need to give it a good dose of fuel injector cleaner. You should be about half way to a belt and roller service on that bike and just have done the first regular oil change at 6,250 miles. The one year parts and labor on the Sport City is unlimited mileage so if this is a leftover 2009 purchased within the past year then let the dealer take care of straightening it out for free. My 2009 Sport City is just over a year old having 12,000 miles on it now and is just ready for a belt and roller service. Note that the CVT case is a bit tough to deal with on this bike and that the CVT cover also supports the outer end of the clutch shaft haveing a special tool to hold the clutch still so the clutch shaft nut can be removed before removing the CVT cover and disengaging the outer clutch bearing in the cover. See the CVT video from Scooter West on the Vespa LX150. It is the same basic concept as the Sport City: www.youtube.com/watch?v=jiEA9SXhtng
