Here in Mexico, we have a motorcycle company named Italika that has its scooters made by Loncin. I have a 2011 WS150, which looks like a Zuma. I've had it for a year and a half, and the only modification I've made thus far is to replace the stock knobbies with Pirelli SL 26 tires (the new rear tire barely cleared the single shock absorber). They improved performance a lot. Soon after putting them on, I put the scoot to the test by riding it to Parker, Arizona. That's 800 kilometers round trip on back roads that included a steep climb from sea level to 4,000 feet. The loaded-down scoot handled it without a problem.
I only learned about the GY6 moniker a couple of days ago, though I've been doing my own maintenance using the Haynes Chinese scooter manual as a reference. By using "GY6" in searches, I've discovered a whole new world of possibilities for my ride. I had originally assumed that I would eventually need to "upgrade" to a modern Vespa 300 for long treks, but now I prefer the idea of becoming a GY6 tunero, as DIY vehicle customizers are called here.
I have a 4,000-km service fast approaching. I intend to use Motul 80W90 gear oil, Castrol 20W50 Actevo X-tra, and an NGK iridium spark plug. Any thoughts?
I'm also thinking about replacing the engine with a 200cc offering from Scrappy Dog sometime next year.
I don't drive cars anymore, by the way. I intend to ride scooters exclusively from now on, in part because I'm a Greenpeace member and something of an environmentalist, in a non-Granola sort of way.
I look forward to all of the great things that I will learn on this site.
