Anyone else have an oil leak coming from the "liquid" gaskets? I'm getting the runaround from Superior Motorsports on fixing the issue. Already replaced all of the gaskets and the "liquid" gaskets but still have a major oil leak..Trike dead in the water! Any suggestions?

Could you explain what you mean by "liquid" gaskets? In what area is your oil leak?

Both the dealer, Superior Power Sports and my scooter repair shop here in Seattle said the manufacturer, IceBear uses liquid gaskets in spots, meaning they use silicone... I took a video of the oil pouring out of the engine, sent it to Superior Power Sports who is now in touch with Ice Bear...will post when I get some news...Bike is not usable..1 year old and only 800 miles on it....has been down more than up...

Ice Bear does not use silicone on the jug base gasket. There is supposed to be a gasket there. Just using silicone there won't work because that is where the "oil feed" to the rocker arms is and is under pressure with the motor running and if silicone is used without a gasket it would have leaked from day one. When you say "Already replaced all of the gaskets and the "liquid" gaskets ", was the jug base gasket replaced or was silicone used without a gasket? Using a thin layer silicone WITH a gasket is a good idea as long as it is used correctly. If the gasket was replaced correctly, then I would suspect a crack in the jug near the oil feed. Jim

Well, after many phone calls between Superior Power Sports in California and Ice Bear where I showed them a video of clean new oil pouring out from the engine, they have decided I need a new set of gaskets, even the silicone liquid gaskets. My repair shop here in Seattle advised me that if they put on the new gaskets, there would be the same result! Superior Power Sports is not the company to buy a bike from! Stay away! I'm now in contact with my lawyer to serve them papers. Did I mention 1 year old Ice Bear 300cc compressor with 850 miles on it and now it's a door stop>

How about posting a link to your video here so we can have a look at it?
From experience, unless the jug or case is cracked ( not likely from normal operation ) , a properly installed jug gasket should fix your problem. As I stated above, "Just using silicone there won't work because that is where the "oil feed" to the rocker arms is and is under pressure with the motor running and if silicone is used without a gasket it would have leaked from day one."
Ex certs from Ice Bear's warranty:
Trike products: Parts are covered under this warranty to be free from manufacturer defects for 6 months & engine is covered to be free from manufacturer defect for 1 year or 1500 miles, whichever comes first.
This warranty does not cover freight to send out replacement or repaired parts, labor incurred upon Dealers, or any incidental or consequential loss and damages, other than the sums specified in this agreement, arising from injury, loss of time, rental vehicles, towing cost, profits, or income as a result of failure of any component of any parts
Additional Warranty Policy for Drop Shippers: DropĀ]shipping Dealers will be required to submit the receipt for PDI and initial assembly from a professional mechanic shop with each warranty claim. Units which are drop shipped directly to the end user in crate without PDI and assembly by a certified/professional mechanics will have a shorter warranty period as follow:
Trike products: Parts covered under this circumstance to be free from manufacturer defects for 60 days on parts & engine is covered for 3 months or 500 miles, whichever comes first
II. Limitations Parts not covered under this warranty: Tires, rims, body panels, fuses, forks, shocks, gaskets, light bulbs, seats, CV Boots, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, filters, clutch wear parts, cables, drive belt, chain, spark plug, brake linings and/or pads, batteries, sprockets, external springs, clips, nuts, bolts and fasteners, any part(s) made from rubber. Chrome parts are covered for 10 days.
End Ex cert.
So, if your trike was delivered with the PDI done by Ice Bear or a Shop then you have your full warranty. If you decided to do the PDI and Assembly yourself then the warranty is shorter as stated.
You will also notice that gaskets are not normally covered in the warranty. Again from experience, I can tell you this is a judgment call made by Ice Bear. Depending on the circumstances, known issues and how your "dealer" presents the information to Ice Bear, Ice Bear has been known to warranty gaskets.
From the limited information you have provided, I don't see where you have a legal case because, you state the machine is a year old.
I also don't see where it is a "door stop", again from the information you provided, it sounds like a relatively minor repair.

Paul, I think there is something missing from your call for help. RapidJim is the only dealer I have met that returns e-mails and I think he knows what he is doing and seems ready and able to help anyone regardless of where they bought their machine. We are ALL curious how this will turn out since it may apply to our machines (and I have not even bought one yet!). Send us all a video on this and there should be a race to who helps first! My money is on Jim!

You people are really nice, buy your trikes from the cheapest place that just has a sales office and do not know anything but how to take your money. Then hit up on JIM for free help and advice. You people put JIM in a precarious position since he is on forums to try and get business but instead only gets asks to fix something that was not bought from him(NICE PEOPLE YOU GUYS ARE SWEETHEARTS). Of course when he sees this he will say he will try and help anybody blah blah blah but think about it WHAT ELSE is he going to say. The Mechanic

Looks like cylinder base to crankcase and I do NOT see any gasket or gap where a gasket should be. Nice video, Paul.

Sorry, I haven't answered sooner. Been really busy. I have to agree that it looks like there is not a gasket there and as I said earlier, there should be. Jim/Owner Rapid Repair

The Mechanic How do I respond to this in a "polically correct" way? Awww forget that!!!! LOL Where it is true that I do advertise on this ( and other forums ),that is not the only reason I am here. I truely enjoy helping people and believe in "what goes around comes around". I myself use forums to find information on things that I need help on, so this is my way of giving back. Nobody can know it all! I remember when I first came to this forum, Jeremy of Enviromoto, Cookees, John @ Valley Scooters, and Dave @ Absouletly Scooters were very helpful and answered some of my questions and gave me advice on certain parts distributors. Two of which I still use today. From a business standpoint, people are more likely to buy from or recommend someone that has helped them. You are right sweet69, I WILL try and help anyone that needs help! Don't you? Jim

It is running. So unless there is a crack, I don't see why this can't be fixed. Please educate me here.

So to answer did I get it Fixed yet, the answer is no. I had a Seattle scooter shop take it apart to (for the second time) put a replacement gasket set on the engine. SuperiorPower Sports sent up the wrong set of gaskets. The shop had the bike apart and showed me the imperfection on the cylinder mating surface and told me not to put the bike together until this part was replaced. I took the part down to Superior in LA (from Seattle) and met with their "maintenance" person.Nice guy. He agreed the cast was flawed and was under the initial warranty and wanted to run over to IceBear in LA to get me a new part. I said OK, but whose going to pay for the labor bills I have? (at $1000). He said Superior wouldn't and IceBear also told him the wouldn't. I took the part with me while Leo (Superior maintenance guy) would talk to his owner. When I got back to Seattle, I provided Superior all of my invoices for the labor and then talked again to Leo who informed me the owner will not do anything for me. Even acknowledging that the part was under initial warranty. Have sent all of my info to my lawyer and will let you know when or if this ever gets settled. Don't buy anything from Superior Power Sports out of LA
