Hey Dawgs!
I've been scouring around this forum for a few weeks leading up to and since purchasing my first and only brand new scooter last week. I bought a 2011 orange Tao Tao ATM50-A1 "secret 63" from a local dealer here in Raleigh, NC and couldn't be happier with the scooter or the purchase! They gave me a considerable discount for paying cash and accepting it as-is with no warranty (I love doing all my own work anyways, and as if they'd be much help once it leaves their lot...) - so it was a win-win for me to be riding the same day for nearly matching an online price.
So far I've restrained myself from any major upgrades while she is still breaking in; just rejetting the carb & lighter rollers and have been changing the oils like crazy (WTF is the stuff they pass off as "lubrication" it ships with anyways??). I recently sold my Ninja 500R to buy the scooter and don't mind the 90 mph reduction in top speed one bit for half the costs of fuel, maintenance, or registration!! Looking forward to jumping right in with all my fellow dawgs here!
- Jon

Welcome to the Forums. Always nice to have new people joining. There is plenty of help on here, but be sure to post your own advice and stories! Where is Cary located at, relative to Raleigh?

Thanks for the warm welcome and tips, guys! Luckily my scooter wasn't running horribly lean from the factory but I still upjetted and nabbed an Iridium plug to be sure. I can already notice a difference in pickup as the engine breaks in. Techie_610, Cary is the rapidly growing suburb of Raleigh right off to the east & southeast. AKA the "Containment Area for Relocated Yankees" - I'm very rare and proud to be a native of Cary I see you're out in Yancey Co, I went to WCU my freshmen year and miss the Smoky Mtns so much! How does your 150 handle the hills? I would love to ultimately move up to a bigger scooter and enjoy the Blue Ridge Pkwy as I did on my Ninja.

The spark plug will make a noticable difference. Also, a Red Hot coil is a great purchase. Even for break-in.
C.A.R.Y... Funny.. Im from New Jersey.. lol I love the mountain rides. And yes, my 150 does great. But its not stock, either. Most 150s need a small tune up for the larger mountains, but stock do fine on the small-medium.
I am planning another trip to Wilmington and Carolina Beach this Oct. (There are at least 8 of us that are going to try it. Ive done it before) We take our 150s, and modded 50 beasts, take all the back roads and state roads. Awesome ride. Anyways, I may be stopping off in numerous places. And if there is a group of scooterists willing to meet up, grab some grub, Im game for it.

Yes I've def learned that every scooter benefits greatly from a few "adjustments" I'm pretty satisfied with my flat-line performance after upjetting and making some airflow mods but I still may end up going BBK to climb even the modest hills around here. Like the 3rd day I had my scooter another "50cc" FLEW past me up one of the bigger, longer hills in town here and told me he had an 83cc kit at the next light. I would love to take some longer rides once I get the BBK but it took me like 3hrs to visit my friends at ECU (normally 1:15-1:30 by car/highway). I used to love to take the back way down US-421 to Carolina Beach on my Ninja 500.

I bought a set of 5g Dr Pulley sliders but didn't see much of an improvement, went to 4g rollers and she was off to the races. I might be screaming the rpm's a little too high on initial take off but it seems to level out at speed. I'm going to try a stiffer torque spring and go back to the 5g sliders and see how that combo works.
