I had an issue where my scooter started with the remote but not the key and push button ignition.
I had just attempted to replace my lights with an HID kit and the kit fizzled it would come on and turn off after a few seconds.. Basically I needed a relay harness.. I had also replaced my Left and right switch controls during which time I removed the left and right brake light switches.
The issue ended up being that the right and left brake light switches on my scooter had failed since i removed them and put them back on . The Buttons stuck in the closed position and did not release so the brake light was always on.
The MC54B requires you to press the brake lever to start the scooter with the push button switch.
Basically I disconnected the switch and the scooter started. SO I replaced the Switches.. for some reason both switches stuck in the closed position so when the lever was pressed the ignition would not work.
Hope this helps someone.

Do the brake lights work when you pull in a lever ? They have to work before the starter will work .

Welcome....you must start and stop the scoot with the remote and then use the key to start after that....then put the remote in a drawer in your bedroom and leave it there.. My remote has been hanging in the utility room for 4 yrs...works great....I use just the key...enjoy your ride...
