Hello All! I am a new scooter owner of two scooters. I have a Tao Tao 50 and a Roketa MC-23 150 CC. My 50 runs GREAT! No issues whatsoever. I just bought my 150 From a guy offline. The 150 is like new. The guy i bought it from bought it for fun and never used it. garage kept. only 82 miles on it. It starts and runs fine but performance is not what i expected. It will only do 50 wide open at 6,000 RPMS. That Model 150 I've read will go to at least 8,500 RPMS and 60-65 MPH. It doesn't even red-line until 10,000 and the Tach goes to 14,000.I put a racing CDI in hoping it was the Rev limiter. That did nothing. I have heard its the Carb needs cleaning cause it sat for a few months. I have NO IDEA how to clean the Carb and don't want to mess it up by trying. I don't really want to bring it anywhere right now to have it worked on. Ive heard that it wont go faster until its broke in around 300 miles. I have 120 on it now. Ive heard various different things. I figured being I'm new to this and a complete fool when it comes to Engines and there seems to be some real Pros on this forum i could get some advice. I don't want to bring it in to a mechanic right now because they seem to just want to suck money from me. I figured I would get some solid advice first. Is there any fuel additives you recommend to clean the carb? What brand? How much Do I put in? Sorry this was so long ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!!! THANKYOU!!!!! Jimmy

Here is a link to some good reference materials on scooters, including some "how to" videos. www.chinesescooterreference.com/videos.htmI would start with checking and adjusting the valves if need be. They don't always come set correctly from the factory. Also, as it has been sitting for so long I would thoroughly clean the carb and make sure all of the old gas is out of the fuel system. Mixing new gas with old just doesn't cut it. As far as fuel additives go, Seafoam is good stuff. You can get it at Walmart for about $8.00. Add one to two cap-fulls to a tank of gas. Will help clean the carb but doesn't take the place of a good manual cleaning.

Hi jimcaliber! 6K rpm is way too low. My 150 goes 60 mph at 8500, 9K at top speed. Check the valves, clean the carb,it's easy, guys are right! Check your tires pressure, it affects the speed greatly. It will go faster after a break-in period, but not much....Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks Man, I thought 6,000 was way to low. So once my 150's carb is cleaned and valves adjusted it should cruise right along at 60 for long distances?

Cruise at 60? No way!!! Downhill with tailwind :-) No stock 150 will do that. Cleaning carb and valves adj are the first steps, there might be vacuum leaks, bad fuel lines, etc.

Man I'm Confused lmao! I keep hearing a 150 will max out at 70 and cruise at 55-60. My 50 is almost as fast as my 150 right now lmao!

According to chinese speedo - oh yeah! But they are waaay off! With some mods you can hit 70 and cruise at 55, but stock? Unless you have EFI...we're talking chinascoots here, not Vespas,Aprillias and such

I see. The guy I bought the scooter from rode behind me to my house for about 20 miles. he was on my bumper and i was doing 52 in my car. he said it was wide open reading 54 on the chinese speedo. you think with a carb cleaning and valve adjustment i can get more out of it before mods?

7500 rpm is perfect over that it will be short lived. You can get the rpm up with lighter rollers/sliders. I tune for 7500 rpm on flats wot. A larger diameter variator will give you some top end. Anything over 50 or 55 is pushing a 150cc hard.

Thanks John.... This sucks! If your right then I have been miss informed. I dont understand how i can drive down the road all day long pulling 40 MPH on my 50cc I get a bike with 100 more CC's brand new and 10 Mph more is pushing it hard. If thats the case I wiash I never got it. The only reason I did was to be able to maintain a contant speed of 55 to 60MPH with a Top speed of 70MPH

SeaFoam is a MUST, it will clean your carb without you having to do anything more than driving the bike around... if the carb is the issue you will see a difference I am pretty certain. I second the opinions on what to expect realistic performance to be. Yes you can tweak and modify, but it is grossly expensive for the results achieved in my opinion. Then there is the toll it will take on the longevity of the bike. Best solution if you want higher speeds is to simply buy a larger displacement bike... used Japanese built 250cc class machines can be had for about the cost many dealers are asking for 150cc machines, that will NEVER be as reliable or as fast... just my thoughts
