I had my reservations about Jonway/JMStar machines myself, until I ran into this forum and found out that they're actually pretty good! Be prepared to do a bit of your own maintenance if there's no scoot shop nearby to work on them for you; the folks here have a big enough knowledge base that nearly any issue you have somebody here can help get you going again. The thing you have to watch out for is not so much the scooter, but the folks trying to sell you one--do some research on the seller and find out how well they treat their customers. That many times will be a deal maker or breaker. Let us all know how it works out for you, okay? I took a look at that scoot you linked to and really liked the look of it!

I have an earlier version of that scooter, It has had it's fair share of issues. You can check out my recent post "finally working" for the details. In general the power train seems fine, but things like electrical components and bodywork is kinda questionable. I don't think you'd find much better in most of the other Chinese brands, but for just a little more money you could probably find a nice use silverwing or Burgman.

i have a 2011 jonway yy250t. received it in the crate in march 2012 with .9 miles on it. overall i will say it is a great maching. the break in period is key with this bike. it has the 244cc honda clone engine. change out all the fluids when you first receive it. i ran it pretty hard up and down long hills for the first 25 miles and then changed the engine and gear oil again. took it "kinda" easy for the next 175 miles and changed oils again at 200 miles. rode it normal and changed oils again at 500 mile mark. changed oils at 1000 and 1500 mile. after 1500 miles i switched to Mobil 1 full synthetic motorcyle oil and will be changing every 2000 miles thereafter. the bike now has 2700 miles on it and it runs great with no issues whatsoever. i run 93 octane gas in it and it is averaging 70 mpg. the one thing i will recommend doing is throwing away the cheap ass turn signal and brake light bulbs and replace them with some LED's.

I bought my 150 from Evosales. It took about 2 weeks to get it. I had a cracked head after some really really bad rain. Sent them pics of the issue and they sent me a replacement part pretty quick. Some people have had what they felt was a bad deal from them...myself, I was happy with the experience. I believe alot of the issues may stem from people being so stoked about getting the scoot that they get impatient, or they are a first time china scoot owner and expect the sun and moon to raise and fall around them and to not have to do any form of PDI then have problems and blame the dealer.

Exactly correct. the problems people face with these scooters is that they do not do the PDI. They just jump on the scoot and drive it like they stole it. It dont matter if it is a chinese or japanese scooter if you dont perform the maintainance or a good break in period it will break and cause you headaches.

I bought my 2011 Jonway YY250T in March of this year, from countyimports.com in California. Do the PDI - make sure you change the fluids and put good stuff into the scoot. I have over 2000 miles on mine - I regularly run I-355 at 70MPH - and though I HAVE had issues, by and large the scoot has been dependable and worthy. Right now, for example, my fan has stopped working (I have not figured out why, yet). Even with a no-op fan, and 80 degree temps on the ride home (43 miles), I kept her at 70MPH and she never overheated.

I bought my Jonway YY250T back in March of 2008. Currently have over 11k mi. on the scooot, on my second set of tires, still OEM drive belt, rollers and clutch spring. I regularly cruise at 45 mph, gets well over 72 mpg, about 1.8 gal per 130-140 mi., between fillups. I rarely get above 55 mph, not that the scooter can't do it, but the suspension is just unsafe to do anything beyond that speed with the roads being so crappy. Besides, I don't see the point of stressing the lil engine, if I want to ride fast, I'd ride something else. Scooters are about being efficient and nimble.. not about going fast and blow up your engine faster than necessary. I even manage to carry my bicycle on my scooter: or other heavy load:

Even though I don't own a Jonway 250cc, I wanted to give my experience from owning a Jonway scooter and having purchased a scooter from EVOsales. I thought my scooter was a Roketa 150 but after looking at my Vin Number it is made by ZHEJIANG JONWAY MOTORCYCLE MANUFACTURING CO. With the exception of having a vacuum hose disconnected, it's been running well for over 3 months. It starts up every time without stalling. I got it from superiorpowersports.com. They automatically sent me the Certificate of Origin and Bill of Sale. It arrived in 2 weeks.
Now I had the experience of purchasing my first ever scooter (50cc) from EVOsales. It had taken 9 days (including weekends) for me to receive it from the day I ordered online. I had trouble starting the engine. I had to open the carb top and trickled a little bit of gasoline down into it. It started up fine after that. Unlike superiorpowersports, with evosales you must request your Certificate of Origin and Bill of Sales through emailing their customer service. You have to email them your VIN Number to receive both items. Other than that evosales is pretty good.

As others have said change the gear oil and motor oil before you even ride your new scooter. Check the tire pressure as well and make sure the bolts on the front and rear wheels are tight.

Before I rode my JMStar Jonway 250 scoot, I took it araprt and checked through the whole scoot. Changed the oil within 25 mi, and 600 mi., flush out the coolant and put real coolant distilled water, changed out the gear oil, took off all the unnecessary items like alarm, radio, faux airbox, etc..

I bought the YY250T in June of 2009...it was manufactured in May, 2009. It has the Honda engine clone and I'm SO GLAD for that! Rode it 5 months and the wife wanted a scooter, so she took the Jonway and I upgraded to a Burgman. The Jonway is STILL running and has over 8,000 miles on it. Bought it from a now closed shop that was great with repair and maintenance service...all under warranty the first year. Under warranty, had to replace the clutch, horn, right brake handle, carb replacement, and valve adjustment...along with complimentary oil and rear drive oil changes. If I didn't like to long distance riding that the Burgman offers, I'd most likely get another Jonway for around town. Can't wait until they start rolling out the EFI models.

I put a few thousand miles on my Jonway YY250T scooter and like mine. Due to moving issue and being caught in just about every storm Long Island saw, it's got some rust occurring, mostly on the muffler bolts, but I love it. It's just like you've read around here. Do a PDI, changes fluids and whatever else and you've got a great bike. Taken from someone in my work's parking lot for whatever reason.
