With all of the calls we've been getting in the last few weeks, it has been blowing my mind how much dealers are paying their suppliers for shipping scooters. I've heard regular quotes of $100-$150 per scooter for orders of 10+. That's just crazy.
I've never been a fan of suppliers marking up shipping costs on their dealers. All of ours have been paying $25-$70 per scooter for shipping which is what it should be.

If I get a scooter shipped to me for under $150 I'm their customer for life. I just paid $250 to have a scooter shipped to me from Indianapolis.

Greg, a customer for life huh? I know I've quoted you prices before and they were no where near $250. Been trying to get your business for a while now. Here's some quotes for you:
2 scooters - $95 per scooter 6 scooters - $75 per scooter 10 scooters - $55 per scooter
Let's do this.

Yeah, but I'll probably sell only 2 more scooters the rest of the year through the shop. And those are both used ones.
Season is almost over here. Kids are going back to school. All my cash invested in parts for the shop. I will definitely reconsider next March though.

When I used to sell scoots..shipping depended on how many...they always tried to push 50-100 units...and gave a good price of $40 each for that amount. But I only got 12 at a time...so it was $125 each. But now that I just sell parts and do repairs..shipping is still costly as they jacked up the prices..which makes no sense. They want me to sell their parts..but with insane shipping prices you can't be competitive or offer the customer a good price.....and sell many parts..so they are shooting themselves in the foot with their own greed. Hell one wholesaler I USED to deal with...no longer do..charged me $61.40 on a $103.18 small parts order....

Number look good Jim. But the rates are really low. Of course it depends how far they go and where to but those are good numbers if they are being moved 1000 miles or more.

I was just wondering. I agree that your shipping prices are good, better than some I have dealt with, however, I had 6 2 wheeled scooters shipped to me from Ice Bear and it worked out to $68.34 a piece. That is Ca to Wi, 1950 miles. Now when I had only 2 shipped it was $120 a piece almost double. We won't go into what trikes cost LOL. Jim

Jim,
For some crazy reason shipping out of CA is a lot less expensive than shipping out of FL. We have been very frustrated also because we sometimes have BMS send a scooter to a retail customer and it cost less for us to ship one from CA to MA than to ship one from FL to MA. Twice the distance and costs less. We do not have a set fee for shipping our scooters. We just charge the dealer whatever the cost actually is.

If you ever figure out how they come up with shipping costs let me know. I have a company down the road that ships car parts all over the world and they pay what he calls "pallet cost" whatever he can get on a pallet ships for $75.00. I will tell you what burns me up more than scooter shipping is parts shipping in over size boxes, like a rear fender assm for a trike. UPS charges "dimensional weight' for these items. Meaning they charge by how much weight the box "could hold". Give you an idea a one piece rear fender assembly for a Magnum from CA to Wi $180.00 by UPS. THe fender weighs maybe 25 lbs. Jim

Seems shipping is a min of 30% and of the cost of the order. Then seems to drop slightly as the cost of goods increase or many items . I just placed an order just over $100 shipping is over $40 .

Space on a plane or truck is space regardless of the weight. When we bring over a container it is the same price full or empty. On shipping scooters there is fixed cost to pickup and deliver so it gets cheaper the more scooters that is spread across.

Yes. Typically if you order 8-15 scooters at a time you get pretty good rates. Jim parts shipping is nuts. When we have to ship body panels sometimes the shipping costs more than the panel does because the box is so big.
