I hate to to repeat anything that has already been posted but I feel I must. My linhai 300 cc scooter has developed a few problems. I will be brief as possible. It will die while running. It just quits. This is usually after a good bit of in town tiding. It will be purring along then just die. Unlike some of the other folks on the forums problems my bike will fire right up with a very rough idle and not be able to take any throttle before dying again. Letting it sit for a hour or so usually lets me going again. Any Ideas folks?. The motor is super strong and I gotta find out the problem. O.k. Second problem. My battery will not charge. The guy at auto zone tested it. It showed 12.34 volts at idle and when I revved it up it shot to 12.48 volts. He said the system is not charging. With the above mention dying problem it don't last long. Suggestions please. Third problem. The left brake lever will not light up the tail lights. The right one will. What type of switch does the scoot have. I gotta get these fixed. I love this bike and it is gonna make me crazy.
Thanks Tony

It could be a bad CDI or Ignition coil? When was the last valve adjustment? Second item could be a bad regulator, that keeps the battery changed up. The third problem is a you need a left brake light switch. try www.partsyahoo.com

The brake light switch is probably sticking. A little spray cleaner (not wd-40) usually clears it right up. The dying problem could also be a vacuum problem with the fuel line. also check fuel pump and float level.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to strip the bike down to the frame them go over everything. Wires, bolts, vacuum lines, everything. The brake switch is a 2 prong switch right?. What part actually charges the battery?. Is it the regulator/rectifier or magneto?. The cdi is a possibility along with the coil which I assume would give a weak spark when it gets really hot. I may change those 2 out just for the sake of it. Any more suggestions are welcomed. Thanks guys

Very few known coil failures on this bike. Lots of cdi failures. Do some research here in the Linhai sections -- I can't remember (been too long) what I sprayed that brake light switch with. It MAY have been WD-40, but you wouldn't want to get that on the contacts themselves -- just the mechanical part.
when mine kept dying on me it turned out to be a very small hole in the vacuum line right where it attached to the fuel pump. Usually took 3-4 miles for it to happen, and usually at speed; but I'm guessing that if the hole had been bigger it might have happened sooner.

Thanks Tony Tony, My thoughts: Dying sounds like fuel starvation, so I would check the fuel filter for clogs, then I would look at the vacuum lines (pretty sure that's your prob). The vacuum helps draw fuel into the bowl. It may be slowly draining without full vacuum, then dying when it loses fuel. The charging comes OUT of the Stator (check volts there while running) then into the Regulator / Rectifier to "clean" the power and send it on to the battery for recharging. 12.8 V is too low should be 14 - 15V. Just trace it back, could be a bad engine ground, could be a bad part, could be a lot of things. As for the lever, could be the switch wires on the bar, or the connection in the harness / ground. Just use a jumper wire and trace back until you get it to go off.

I completely stripped the bike. put new fuel and vacuum lines in, Checked and corrected all electrical connections (Some were a little loose), adjusted the carb idle and mixture, checked all bolts etc, Took manifold off and found a couple of very small cracks and repaired them with Mr Gasket silicone gasket maker, Bought a trickle charger and let the battery charge for 2 days on it, Took the variator cover off to examine my belt and was surprised that it appeared new, Changed fuel filter, Done a few various things, Put her back together and have put around 30 miles on it so far with no problems so far. Keeping my fingers crossed. I have a new cdi ordered just for the heck if it just in case it was the culprit all along. This bike is super strong. I am amazed at the power of this 300 cc engine. It will get away from you if you don't watch out.
