I just bought my first scooter its a 2008 Lance duke 250. I noticed it has a noise in the motor a rattling. I thought maybe it was the clutch so I took the clutch off the engine and started it up and it still rattles. So I drained the oil and checked the screen and it had just a few flakes of metal and nothing on the drain plug or silvery looking. I'm not for sure if this is normal. It has 4300 miles on it and runs great but its just noisy. Any ideas what to look for on this motor. A friend of mine also has a 150 and it almost sound as noisy as mine. Is this the nature of these motors

Wow i hope that isn't the nature of them. Once i had a hard to diagnose rattle and it was a loose flywheel/stator bell bolt.

It may be the rollers. Test it by cruising as slow as you can (just coasting around 5 to 10 miles per hour. Then give it very little gas just to pick up very little speed. It that's when you hear the noise it may be the rollers. Pull the CVT cover and pull the variator. Open it up and see what the rollers look like and if they are seated correctly. They some times come out of their seats and will rattle around.

I checked the rollers they looked great. I then removed the front clutch and started it and it still rattles.

Can you record a video and post it to YouTube then post the link to the thread. Try to capture the noise. I replaced the rollers for sliders and changed the clutch to get a noise to stop. Mine had a warn clutch. In order,to test that you have to power break a little. It seems to temporarily resolve the issue. If it does then the clutch maybe the issue.
Post the video and I'm sure one of us can help point you in the right direction.

Rattle rattle rattle. How is your timing chain? Is it doing a dance in there? Have you grabbed the end of the crankshaft and give it a wiggle up and down and side to side? Bearings do go out in these engines and any movement there will make a rattle noise.
