I have a 260 BMS and the scooter just started this coughing at take off from a dead stop.
Thought maybe I could get some feed back here as to what is causing this anomally?

When you say coughing, does it hesitate, seemed to be missing, and after take off does it run good?

Well definitely start with the simple stuff first. Check to see what your plug looks like. After that would be checking the carb and after that the valves. Although If you are going to remove the fairings i definitely say you should check the carb and valves while you are there.

If it is jerking at takeoff then smooths out as speed starts to increase it is probably due to your clutch pads being glazed. Sand the pads and inside the bell with some medium grit sandpaper and blow out the clutch assembly so it is clean.

Spart plug looks great. the valves were adjusted 2k ago - I noticed it just started to idle a little rough one day recently and now the coughing at startup

I think it is again time to adjust your valves if it is starting to idle rough.

I agree with wile. If you have gone 2k mi. then it is probably time to re-adjust. The clutch suggestion also could be correct but clutch shouldn't cause a rough idle.

I had that rough idle also  (ran good when moving) but at stop signs, ran rough and as pulling out stalling. (If the clutch is engaged in low rpm's like mine, it will give you rough idle) replace tuque spring, all is well. |

Hesitation off-idle like at a stop light or stop sign but running fine otherwise, I'd lean the idle mixture a bit.
