I'm looking at this BMS 260 scooter I already have a Shenke 150 and have become quite familiar with these Chinese bikes and PDI's. The guy selling it is stating it needs a new ignition coil and relay but the bike does start but misses heavily. I'm going to go take a look at it tomorrow but I was wondering if his statement about the issues could be accurate. I don't know anything about the 260's yet I just don't want to bite off more then I can chew. It has 3100 miles I haven't viewed it only talked to him on the phone. He said he can start it but it's not ridable and the fix would be about $100. What types of issues are common on this model? What do I need to watch out for when I look at it? Any way to verify it's the coil? Attachments:

If your getting spark, the coil should be good, ( a bad coil shows up after your running awhile)the relay sends the spark to the starter, sounds like the relay is good. he may just have a loose spark plug cap, (happened to me about a month ago, did not what to start, and then seemed to miss) It may badly need a valve adjustment?

The valves are adjusted hydraulically, for the 2011/2012 models. I don't know about the 2008 models. (looks like you have the 2008 model there, since it does not have EFI).
I just got my bike, but most common is to change oil to the right oil (there's a small performance increase when using SAE 10W30 instead of the factory 15W40 oil. Change the gear oil too! Mine had lots of metal flakes in after driving less than 100 mi.
On the EFI model you need 91 octane gasoline. That's premium for most gas stations. Mid grade (90)might work, but it could have issues with standard fuel (87).
Buy a $5 bottle of 'valve cleaner'/engine cleaner which you can pour half of it in the tank. Run it for a while to make sure most of the carbon deposit and other stuff is cleaned.
Only then can you start with the heavier stuff. It might be that doing all the above, your situation is solved (yes and check the spark plug too).
The 2008 model has a carburetor. If it is adjusted incorrectly (too lean/too rich) your motor might also not run well.
Also, check coolant levels! Coolant levels are a bitch, because you'll have to open the dash board plate of under the steering bar. it's a bitch to put them together again! I wished they had made the coolant cap accessible somewhere!
Ow, and one thing this bike misses, is a cupholder! I really needed it this week! Without a cupholder this bike is no deluxe scooter! :-)
So far I've been scared as hell to perform maintenance on my bike, but it's been going well!

Check that wire going into the spark plug cap also, mine came apart as I was checking it, so I coverted mine with a snap on spark plug cap (problem fix). I think a good PDI will solve all the other problems.

I went ahead and passed on it, seriously neglected and I just couldn't get over the color in person. Thanks everyone for the replys, honestly when I was looking at it, it seemed more like an air leak and a lean condition or fuel problem as it would cut out at WOT.
