My local community college offer a small engine class. I think that it would be a great investment for me to take it. My only concern is that they use tractors, ATVs and motorcycles to train students, no scooters. I may be assuming wrong, but I am thinking that most small engines are the same and it would be ok to take the class, even though they don't actually use scooters?
I have learned so much here on this board and just by working on scooters that has broken down. The class is only $92 and the books is about another $75. Does it really matter that much if they don't use scoots for training? Any suggestions?
Thanks so much

I think thats a great idea, atv and scooter engines share some similarities btw. i started learning to ride and maintain minibikes when young. Then moved up to motorcycles and lastly scooters. The price seems good and the knowledge you gain will be invaluable. best wishes with your training.

thanks for the nice comment. i am hoping i won't be the only lady in class, which is not a huge concern. i work on scooters pretty much now but every now and then, i do need a bit of help getting screws off, lifting things, etc, just things that ladies sometimes have trouble with because of our limited muscle power. don't want to look like a wimp in class, now i am excited, just a tiny bit worried, well i guess that is normal for anyone venturing into something new.

i think it will be very helpful for you to take the class you will learn stuff that will help to find the problems you will come across in the future and dont worry about being a woman in a class full of guys you will be the center of atention

Sounds like a good idea, one thing you will find with small reciprocating gas engines is that they are all very very similar in design, being either 2 cycle or 4 cycle is the biggest difference. Will help you to diagnose some problems with your car engine too, since they have most basic components in common with 4 cycle small engines.

It helps if you know what you are looking at, why it works, and how it works. These are the things you'll most likely learn in such a course. I'd think it a great idea for you to take it.
