Hi All! My name is Jeremy, from Chicago. 'Might as well start with my riding history, by way of introduction.
I started riding motorcycles in 2000, with an SV650. Rode that 30,000 miles over 3 years until the chain broke and cracked the crankcase. Had to sell the bike for parts, as I couldn't afford a new engine.
Over the next 9 years, I had several other bikes, including 7 more motorcycles and 3 scooters.
In 2009, I crashed and broke my leg badly. Went into a turn too hot, and low-sided, sliding into the woods at 40 mph. Broke my leg in 3 places. It was under the bike when I went down. The pavement caught my toe and twisted my leg around backwards; spiral fracture. Ouch.
I haven't ridden since then. Under the influence of morphine in the hospital, I told my wife I was done riding. Sold my motorcycle (KLR650) and scooter (Burgman 400)
Now, we've just had our first kid 5 months ago. From a responsibility standpoint, I should not get another bike until she's 16 or so. But I'm about going out of my mind, being her slave and never being able to leave the house.
I've been working on my wife, and she grudgingly agreed that I could get another scooter, but NOT a motorcycle. I'm good with that, as I probably won't have time for any more epic road trips. It'll just be scooting for groceries or shorter local rides. Maybe an occasional all-day ride with some locals. What's odd is that she'd be OK with my having a FAST scooter, like a Burgman 650 or Honda Silverwing, but not a slow motorcycle, like a Suzuki TU250.
Scooters are more practical anyway, cooler to ride in the summer, and no problem in traffic.
So I'm hoping to buy a scooter in the next month or so, on which to enjoy the rest of the summer. Or at least little bits of it.
See you all around!
