Burgman is a big step up! I was thinking of going for the BMS TBX 260 EFI, or the burgman 400, but the 400 was too heavy, and had a lower gasmileage, besides, my wife did not want me to spend $3800 on a bike, so I bought the BMS for $1000 cheaper. I think in the long run the Burgman 400 would have been a better purchase, but I liked the BMS color better; and besides, I wouldn't want to fork out a lot of money, only to have it in the garage most of the year (just using it for recreational activities); not daily commute.
Congrads on your new buy!

CONGRATS!
You did exactly what I plan to do, however mine is a 2 year plan now. Initially I was looking at purchasing a used Burg 400, but since I had enough $ to get the Roketa right away (instead of saving another year or so for the Burg) and wanted to be riding this year, I picked up the Roketa. I'll continue to save $ towards the Burg and ride my Roketa until the plates expire in 2014. Hopefully, when the time comes, I'll be able to sell my Roketa for some decent $ to apply towards the Burg.
Enjoy the ride!

For what it's worth, you may want a Majesty instead of a Burgman. I had a Burgman 400, and it was quite a nice all-around cooter. However, the Majesty's clutch is a little better. The Burgman's just spins and spins before it gets to the belts. The Majesties are also cheaper, and still a top tier Japanes manufacturer. (most folks would say they make better bikes than Suzuki)
What attracted me initially to the Burgman was the dual disc front brakes and slightly larger underseat storage.
The new Burgman 400s have ABS, which is a GREAT feature. I've heard they fixed the clutch issue now too.
In my local stealership, Burgmen are going for around $7k, and there's a 2010 Majesty for $5k.
FWIW, I just got a used 2004 Silverwing for $3500, which is a better bike than either of them, I think.
