Hi all, I've looked around here and a few other places but I can't seem to find out how to change my air filter on a JCL MP250a. I can see where it is (i think), but it looks like I have to take off a ton of the plastic to get to it. I'm not sure if this is correct or not. Also, I can't seem to find any site that sells the air filters MP-250-JCL-03-42-01. Thats the part number in the parts catalog I got with the scooter. From what this posts says, I shouldn't have to replace it until 9,000 miles? Is that true? The little clear tube is getting brown and I thought that was when I was supposed to replace it. I'm only at 1,400 miles. scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=200cc&thread=52731&post=512554

Here is my air box, your air box may be the same, if so you can change or replace air filter without taking the whole thing off, I think there are 4 screws and the front will come off. Attachments:

The clear tube is a drain tube for excessive condensates in the air box that come from the PCV system. It's part of maintenance to clear this tube out by draining it and is not an indicator that you need to change the filter. 9000 mile service interval for the filter is correct but it doesn't hurt to inspect it regularly or change it more frequently, especially if you live in a dusty area or operate it on things like dirt roads.

The filter while a little tough to work out can be serviced without any plastic removal. You only need to remove the cover and if you've got a short stubby phillips head screwdriver you can get it off without too much trouble. The filter assembly on the 250A is cleanable and does not need replacing unless you tear it up. Go to your auto parts and purchase this kit; www.knfilters.com/clningacc.htmThe cleaning solution works with water. After cleaning blow it out or lay it in the hot sun until throughly dry. Then give it a very light coat of the K&N filter oil and put it back together. This works extremely well and I've got a 250A with over 10k on it and it's a 07 with the original OEM filter and it's still just fine. This filter is not a paper or cartridge filter but is made to remove and clean, a nice feature on a scooter. The light coat of filter oil provides extra protection against air contaminates and allows nice air flow to not restrict your carb.

Thanks for all the replies. I didn't have a short stubby screw driver so I had to take off all the plastic. It looked really clean with no noticeable dirt or grime so I didn't do anything to it. I did do a valve adjustment while I had all the plastic off and it made a HUGE difference!! I was having trouble starting when cold, dying at stop lights and it was very sluggish when trying to accelerate from a dead stop. If anyone is experiencing the issues I listed above, take some time (6 hours for me a total newb) and do a valve adjustment. Details listed below. This thread and the video got me through it all with no problems. scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=200cc&action=display&thread=30794www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4PAshnNCoE
