So I'm about to hit 6500 miles on my linhai 260 and looking to do a tune up on everything that might need looking at around that point. What usually starts to show wear at this point and what should be replaced.
I just did an oil and coolant change and I'm doing the gear oil and brakes tonight. Tires will be changed next month or so.
While doing the oil last night one of the motor mounts came off and must have been loose for a day or so. so I want to make sure everything that is likely to be a problem gets checked or replaced.
what's the easiest way to get motor access last night I had to remove the entire back of the scooter to get to the motor mount and you still ciuldnt access the carb or top end.the gas tank is right above the carb and valve cover.
Oh and last question what is the recommended oil and gear oil. I went with 10w-40. And what intervals do you change the oil and gear oil I've heard different things. thanks for all the help

Check your manual, but I think the recommended oil is 20w-50. Gear oil 80 or 90 wt. That's for a Linhai 300 scooter, I think the 260 is the same, but u should check owner's manual 2 b sure.

Fleetingyouth - the engine oil is 15W-40; gear oil is 75W/80W-90.
I would check your CVT belt around 8K miles - Size 871-23 30. I waited to replace it after 10K and in retrospect, I should have done it sooner.
Have you replaced the gas and vacuum hoses? If not, replace them. Original ones on the bike are so thin they will eventually start developing leaks; especially in the vacuum line.
Check your fuel filter and make sure the filter looks good and intact. If you see lots of debris floating around, I would go and replace it.
I know you said you were going to work on the brakes so be sure to look at the fluids. Mine looked like jello when I opened up the brake reservoir after 5000 miles. My scooter was a 2006 model and I bought it in 2008 and did not change it until a year later. I was amazed that my brakes worked at all.
As for easy access to the engine, there really is not an easy way. Simplest thing to get to the engine/carb area is to remove the seat and the cover to the gas tank and then the gas tank itself. Once you do this, you can unbolt the plastic storage compartment from the frame and slide it out to the front (gas tank has to already been removed) and you can have a clear shot of the air filter, starter and the backside of the engine. With this method, you do not have to remove any of the side panels.
I'm sure more will jump in and suggest other things to look for.
Overall, the scooter is good. Take care of it like you are doing and you should really be trouble free for a long time.

Check rollers for flat spots and they should be changed when you get a belt . At 5.500 miles my stock rollers were just starting to develop flat spots but still round and I replaced them with Dr Pulley sliders and wow its faster . I should have went with 11 grams as mine were 12.2 and went with 12grams . Takeoff and uphill was a hair less , but had a more steady climb in acceleration and gained 5 MPH on top end . Sliders perform better , last longer and do not rattle like rollers . When rollers get flat spots then can not roll as good and get stuck . Clean the airfilter , put a lil bit of Seafoam about a capfull to clean the fuel system . I use it every other gas fill up .
How does the rear tire look ? Mine was getting bald at 8,000 and had to be replaced . A new sparkplug often perks up a scooter and I only use NGK iridiums in my scooters . Use synthetic engine oil and gear lube really do work better than dino stuff .
For a belt Bando Kevlar is the best anda Gates Powerlink kevlar is good too but the Bando is better

Just got a maintenance schedule myself! @6000 mi, usually they recommend nothing but steering stem bearing to inspect it. But if your 6k miles is going to be a roundup of 3k-9k maintenance, then the following is recommended (according to the schedule):
A = Adjust C = Check/Inspect and if necessary clean or fix R = Replace
R: engine oil R: Engine oil filter R: Fuel Filter R: gear oil A: Valve gap C: Carburator C/R: Air Filter (for city driving replace at 9k miles, country driving sooner). C: Spark Plug C: Brake system (pads/oil) C: Drive Belt C: Suspension C: Screws, bolts and nuts C: Tires C: Lightbulbs C: Steering stem bearing C: Hoses and electrical wiring
That's about all the maintenance, most of these are on 4, 5, and 8k miles. If you've done them recently can't harm to quicky re-check.
As far as Motor Oil, on my BMS TBX 260 they recommended 10w40, my mechanic recommended 10w30. Transmission 80W90 Brake fluid DOT4 or higher for 250cc, DOT 3 or higher for 50CC.

A heavier weight oil is good with these and using synthetic or semi-synthetic. Using regular automotive oil may not be the best choice with the Chinese scoots because the metal is softer and wears faster. However, it doesn't take much to change the oil and, as long as you do it every 1,000 miles, you can pretty much use whatever you like. (But, if you're like me and live in hot climate and run at 65+mph a lot, you ought to use heavier, synthetics)
