I am in the process of moving and had my scooter put away for several months. I had to replace the *one* hose I overlooked during PDI which caused a coolant issue, but it had otherwise run normally after that was resolved. Now, I give it a test run because I have to get it inspected, and it's not shifting past first gear. The belt's intact and looks to be moving the variator properly with acceleration. While riding, when it revs to the point where it would switch into first gear, I get a short chirp or screech and it fails. I would like to know if anyone has ideas on where to look so I don't potentially overcomplicate the troubleshooting here. Limted time and space

that is weird as this scooters have CVT transmitions, check all your fuses. and the gear fluid. Good luck.

I changed engine and gear oil before riding it and I don't believe fuses have any role between the variator and rear wheel. It looks like the rollers are doing their job so I'm a bit concerned something bigger's broke. Not in the mood to undertake replacing gears. Ouch.

It is not your gears, it does not change gears they are stationary. It is the CVT that determines the speed ratios. If it chirping check the belt it sounds like it is slipping really bad or really stretched out. Check for grease or oil on the Pulleys, maybe some grease from the Variator came out and got on the belt or pulleys. Wile

Initially when I parked, I'd found a leak. Smelled like gear oil, meaning it WAS gear oil because that is the single most vile odor in the known world so there's no mistaking it. I drained some, topped it off again and no longer had any of that stuff leaking. Curious that it leaked at all.
Also some grease did apparently find its way around the CVT casing so I think you're on to something.
So going with the assumption grease got out, are there any immediate implications someone knowledgeable may be aware of?
Or should I just try and clean, run the bike on its center stand for a while and see if further leakage occurs?
As the bell closes in from the RPM's getting higher, is it more strain on the belt where it would start slipping right before it's set to upshift, because that quick chirp only occured twice and right as it would have shifted.
The belt's got just over 3k miles on it, and I have a spare, but would belt dressing serve any purpose if there's oil-induced slipping?
