Que Paso? I've been lurking for the past couple of weeks, but as of now I'm dropping in as the proud owner of a 2008 Tomos Nitro 150... that said... I think I made a huge booboo already. Anyways, hope to learn as much as I can, or die trying! ;) ;) Attachments:

what was the booboo you made? didnt park it down hill on the side stand did ya? Nah lol! I'm not that green. So I got the bike at a really good price because there were a few minor things wrong with it, namely the speedometer, odometer, and fuel gauge. after I got it I took it to a mechanic for the once over and to have to carb cleaned. it's been running smooth as butter since. The only thing that was bothering me was the fuel gauge. I should have just left it alone and kept the tank full but I decided to tinker with it myself after doing some research on line. so i took a piece of copper wire and stuck it into the gas tank to move the float around (thought it might have been stuck). just my luck copper wire slips from my fingers in to the gas tank. I called my buddy at work who works on scooters, he said it was no big deal. after that i went to the gas sTation filled up and soon as i pulled out of the station it cut off. I managed to get it going after a couple of tries and got it home. Now, I can get it started but soon as i give it gas it cuts off. it starts fine, but sure isn't going anywhere. So my gut is telling me the lost wire is to blame. i should note also, that after using premium fuel, i accidentally used regular on the last fill up. not sure if that could be the culprit. I really would like to work this out myself, cuz if i cant get going i'll be looking at towing+80bucks an hour for repair. any help would be greatly appreciated.

The valves need adjusting thats all perhaps would that be because i changed the fuel? i mean its been running fine up until that point. and do i need to worry at all about the wire that fell into the tank? Thanks for the reply by the way.

It was brand new , I put in 87 and less than one mile poof the piston cracked . I only get premium where each grade has its own hose after that to avoid getting any 87 again

i swear this whole this has to do with the changing the fuel. especially since i was basically on an empty tank. Is the valve adjustment guide in the scooterdawg manual all i need? or should i note anything else?

If you ran into an empty tank check your fuel filter, probably sucked debris from the bottom of the tank up.

Should be visible between the tank and the carb . Some have known to come installed backwards from the factory

ok fuel filter is good. i just spoke to my buddy and he mentioned possibly replacing the fuel. in order to do that he instructed me to detach the fuel hose to the carb from the petcock and drain the tank. oddly enough when i did that, no gas starts draining. i even detached the hose with the fuel filter and nothing. now i'm just a young buck, but i'm pretty sure that can't be right.
If i'm wrong just slap me upside the head with infinite scooter wisdom. thanks in advance.

Just to make sure i'm in the ballpark... here's where i detached the hoses from. the silver saucer thingamajig (petcock) in the middle. bone dry when i detached the hoses. except for a bit of fuel on the downside of the filter. mind you i have a full tank of gas. is it pretty safe to assume that there is blockage in the tank above the petcock? howdy, i'm going to take the opportunity to welcome you to the forum and also extend a silly suggestion. did you by chance NOT remove the gas cap since this fiasco happened? some have problems with unvented fuel cap causing a vacuum lock on the fuel in the tank. the other thing to do might be spin the piece off the bottom of the tank there and see if you get fuel out then.
lotsa miles and smiles to ya

Yes i tried the gas cap. I also tested the petcock by using the vacuum test. seems to be working fine. I think however i should messing around with this because now i can only get it started by kickstarting it. If i try to push button start i get a wierd high pitch buzz and it wont turn over.
I really would like to figure it out, but i dont want a gang buster repair bill. the shops here in atlanta are ridiculously expensive. not too mention i sold my car to get the damn thing now i'm without transpo. sucks because i know i'm like right there...

Bong Badda Bing! thanks for the input. i actually just took the gas tank off and checked everything out. Not only did i find the wire that i used to check the fuel float, i found an inch long screw a few washers and random pieces of tom foolery. good thing is there was no rust. so i am now about to piece it all back together and hope i've earned a few stripes. if there's anything i should take not of while putting all back together please let me know.
