Well I went out and bought a new 2010 Kymco Xciting 500Ri ABS, it was marked down. Does anyone have any knowledge about these scooters. The owners manual states the left brake lever will apply the front and rear brake; and the right lever applies only the front. But if I put the scooter up on the center stand and apply the left brake lever the front wheel will still roll, but the rear is locked up solid. I am not sure if the book is wrong or something is not working correctly. I suspect that the book is incorrect. These 500's are pretty quick. It is very nice on the freeway too, allot better than my People S 250.

I think the rear brake distributes a small amount of "dual" braking to the front wheel like the Goldwings. The 500Ri is a whole lot of machine. Keep updating here so we can see what its like. Isnt it a beast to move around in the garage or put on the center stand?

It's an easy thing to check. If the right lever is applying pressure to the front brake, there will be an aditional brake line going to the caliper. If not there will just be a cross-over line from the front brake line. I suspect the manual is wrong.

It is a whole lot lighter than my Harley-Davidson full dress bagger. In comparision it feels rather lite. As far as it being fast, I only have about 100 miles on it so far, but it seems rather snappy. My son has a Xciting 500Ri also with about 800 miles and it is faster, I assume because it is broken in already. They seem to ride and handle nicely.

congrats
having ridden the xciting 250 and 500, CE has both i liked the 250 more. its lighter and way easier to flick around corners while being only about 8mph slower. either way its sad knowing that the xciting 250 is done and replaced with the 300i downtown, the 500 is a great ride, kymco really sorted out the suspensions well.
