Hey there, did a search and I'm looking for some more specific help. I'm doing a head gasket for my buddy's Legacy 250. It overheated on a trip a few weeks back and had chocolate milk in every part of the engine. We have a new thermostat and gasket set for it. Most of the engine is tore down but I can't figure out how to remove the head. Since the cam and sprocket are all one piece it makes it impossible to lift the head off. All I can think to do is relieve tension on the timing chain so I can slip it off the sprocket, remove the cam/sprocket, and pop the head off. To relieve tension on the chain am I right in assuming I need to remove the flywheel to get access to the chain tensioner? Is there an easier way?

Okay, I found the tensioner! Didn't need to pull the flywheel, I just didn't know where it was. I got the cam off and the head, I have the timing chain held up with wire so I don't skip a tooth on the crank. After cleaning we can start putting this back together.
