Hello All I have had my scooter now for almost a year. It has 1808 miles on it. The model is a Jonway YY250T or Roketa MC-54-250.
I would recommend never buying this model and here is why:
1)It has a water leak the appears to be coming from the head gasket. 2) The rear end has an oil leak. 3) The front brake will not work until a ton of pressure is applied to the brake handle. 4) The gas gauge is wired backwards. It will show more gas as the tank empties. 5) The scooter came with the wrong drive belt which has been replaced.
I live in western PA and the local motorcycle dealers and scooter dealers do not want to see a chinese scooter. The closest person I can find to do the work is south of Pittsburgh more then an hour away.
The scooter is fun to ride but save your money and get something different.

do not buy a chinese/taiwanese yada yada yada scooter if you cannot do the work yourself. all those issues are expected and easily fixed id imagine.

Yep, I bought a china scooter 2008 BMS260 TBX. when it srunning its great I've spent a lot of down time on the same things as mentioned above and much more. Got over 12K on it now. and feel very confident with its mechanics, as it should be, since all the work I've done and parts I've replaced. Its still been an experience and I'm very up to date with scooter problems. I agree with your statements about doing your own maintenance and that one should be prepared to do their own maintenance before buying a chinese scooter. I was /am prepared to do what I can as far as maintenance is concerned.
What I did not communicate well is the fact that a scooter with less then 2000 miles should not be having my kind of problems. I have worked for years in testing metals and quality assurance / control. I think what has happened is that I am very shocked at the poor quality of my chinese scooter. Because of this experience I have decided to try to never buy something from China again. Yes, this will be very difficult in our country with so much being imported from China.

frankly it appears you didnt do a pdi on it, i dont care if it had 200 miles on it, what year of scooter is it?
i am on my second 2008 mc -250 54b. put 10k on the first one before a nice lady totaled it out for me. got 7100 on the 2nd one and still going super.
the brakes fluid should have been replaced with new fresh fluid, and the system cleaned, when i pulled mine out of the box i had a similar problem, because the bypass orifice in the reservoir was clogged. the china fluid sucks and it was sitting in a box in a warehouse for 2 years before it was dropped of at my door.
anytime i hear these small complaints on china scooter all i can say is its not an indicator of chinese build quality because really if you paid half of what a japanese scooter cost some problems should have been expected, its more of an indicator of your lack of wrenching abilities. i guess you made a choice between twice as much or cheaper chinese, and the cheaper chinese didnt work for you,
I think the honda silver wing and the vespa are the only 2 wheelers i have ever seen with accurate gas gauges, most 2 wheelers dont have gauge you have to pay attention, and the small percentage that do are merely a general idea at best. flip the wires or drain the tank and see where it reads, now you know where its out of gas then fill it up.

I am so glad I bought my Reflex and not Chinese Junk. I have had my 2005 Reflex for 15 months and a 1000 ultra reliable miles. The only thing I have ever done is change out the fluids. My Reflex will do 75mph all day. I spent only $2500 for it as compared to $1800 for a new chinese scooter. This is a case of something used being way better than something new.
