Ok. tonight I bought a new Komoto 250 cc scooter. It had 2.2 miles when I drove it off the lot. The owner of the lot is retiring, so they are selling off their stock. I pad $1400 for the scooter.
I sold my 1997 Honda elite 80cc today, and used that money to buy the new Komoto.
Here's where it gets sticky. I drove the scooter home on a two lane, doing 60 to 65 mph. After about 15 miles, I get the red high temp light on the digital dash display, and my temperature gauge went up to high.
I slowed down to around 50 mph, and it went off. When I reached town and had to stop at the first stop light, smoke poured out, and it was obviously overheating....
When I got home, the remaining collant gushed out of the overflow tank, and it looked as if it was coming out of the bottom of the reserve tank, not the top. Now I have read on here that the have TWO radiators, one in front of the engine, and one behind the head lights. If so, I was wondering maybe that they didn't put the coolant in the actual radiator, just in the overflow chamber. Is this true?
anyway I called the dealer, and I am loading it in a truck, and taking it back. They said they would take care of the issue.
does anyone have any thoughts on this? Besides this happening, this scooter is AMAZING!!! Very smooth ride, great fast speeds.. Couldn't ask for a better scooter.
Thanks!

Is this true? yes it's true, these komotos have 2 radiators. the one behind the headlights has the pressure cap and it's where you add the coolant, not the recovery tank. i have the same bike. be careful when working with these radiators, they are VERY thin. i have had a few issues with mine but like you said it's a great bike.

ok. I loaded it up on my truck, took it back to the dealer's mechanic, and in 5 seconds he told me what was wrong without even looking at the bike. the cooling fan wasn't plugged in !!!!! He is going to keep it today and tomorrow to give it the once over to make sure everything was ok due to the coolant running out....
Hopefully i will have it back tomorrow afternoon. I am addicted to this scooter!

Well I picked up my scooter tonight. It ran good. I was riding it around 65 mph, then my heater gage went up and the red light flashed for a couple seconds, then it went off. Seemed ok.
I parked it for 5 minutes, then got on it again and rode it around town. It came on once, then quickly went off. No clue why this is doing this.
I might add that when I was driving him home from the shop, it was a 40 mile drive, and it came first came on at around the 20 mile mark.
The red light will come on, and the indicator goes up, but then it goes back down. I am assuming this is the indicator for the fan to turn on.

It's probably less well set up. The fan goes on as soon as the temp hits the red. A small adjustment on the thermostat should allow it to go on faster. You could do some effort to improve airflow a bit, and make sure the radiators are clean.
