Hey everyone. I've go an MC54 250 So I took of my CVT cover the other day so that I could blow the dust out of the clutch (for smoother takeoff) and it worked There was a LOT of dust. Too much dust. that's when I realized that there are deep score marks on the bottom of the CVT cover towards the rear just in front of the clutch. For some reason the belt has been rubbing on the bottom of the CVT housing making a lot of dust and I'm sure it's compromising the belt. The CVT itself looks to be ok, it isn't bent of warped. When I put the cover back on I get a bad rattling sound at take off or going up hill (high torque), I thought it might have been something to do with me blowing the dust out of the clutch. But if I take the cover off the sound goes away. So I'm thinking it is the sound of the belt slapping up against the cover now that there is no longer a pile of dust there to cushion the blow and muffle the sound. So how do I fix this? Is there a way to adjust the tautness of the belt??? Is the belt just stretched out and has to be thrown away??? Is there something wrong with the rear axle causing the clutch assembly to sit to low??? I dunno??? Any information will help, Thanks guys.

Belts wear and will produce dust . How many miles on it ? Get a new one before that one breaks . Run it on the CS to see how far the belt travels but be warned some have had parts sling off and hurt them since it was in dismay but in decent condition you should be safe . You could also put ink or chaulk on the belt and see where it marks the cover . The dust may have been around the rollers and removed it now has more clearances with the dust gone and from wear . Rollers rattle more when they develop flat spots with wear . Replace them or get sliders which are better

thanks for the advice skuttadawg The odometer says 643 miles but I don't know how accurate that is cuz the speedo has been broke since I boutght it. It's an 08 and I bought it from a guy who bought it from a guy who apparently wrecked it (I got ripped off). I know I have put about 800 miles on it. It doesn't rattle unless I'm sitting on it and the cover is on Not even if i apply a little brake and hit the gas (which should simulate the resistance and make the rollers rattle)still doesn't rattle. To top it off I didn't blow out the variator, only the clutch But the rattle doesn't concern me as much as the wear marks on the bottom of the CVT cover. The belt has definitely been touching the inside of the CVT cover. I think I'm gonna order a new belt maybe the old one is just a little stretched out causing the "slack-side" to drag under torque. Thanks again for your help

If you have the Linhai 257 engine, two belts will fit, 871 20 30 and 856 30 30.
Try the 856

I have the 244. Does it also have two belts? I wonder if the guy before me put the wrong size belt on it. I will take the cover back off and see what the number on the belt is (if it hasn't rubbed off already) Thanks for the help guys. and if u have any other ideas let me know.

My 244cc engine is still good after 5500 miles and will last probably 4,500 miles longer. I wipe out the dust, once per month, but that is due to riding of gravel about 150 feet to get home. The dust will get all over my scooter and on engine components, from normal riding in a country town. So I clean her up to keep the belt good and check out its running condition. Just smart to do.. Now your scooter might have had a bad belt from the beginning.. That is always possible..

You can tell if it is to long also a lot of the cheap belts will bounce up and down. Take the CVT cover off and if it hangs a little on the bottom its either to stretched out or to long. Then Start the scoot up and it should not be bounceing up and down. Wile

Cool guys. Thanks for all of the input. And thanks for your help wile. I will take the cover back off and see how the belt looks while it's running (kind of a pain getting that cover gasket back on). I don't think it was hanging down, but it didn't seem all that tight either. If I replace the belt should I be getting one of those kevlar belts, or will that just make the face of the variator wear out quicker??? What is a good belt brand???

Alright. After further inspection I realize that I have a Powerlink 918 x 22.5 (glad I checked because the numbers are about rubbed off). The belt is nice and tight until I start the motor. Wile was right. The bottom side of the belt bounces around like Whoa!. I wonder if a higher quality belt would fix this? I'm going to look around and see what my options are. I also realize now that the rattling noise is probably the rollers. Thanks for all of your guy's help.
