Linhai Aeolus 260cc Cooling System

Just received an unused '08 model and now the fun begins. I changed out engine oil, gear oil and brake fluid without any issues. Drained radiator and never saw such filth coming out. Used Prestone Engine flush with success but can't get engine to run at half or three quarters on temperature gauge. When it climbs to the red mark I shut it down. I don't hear the fan coming on so I don't believe it does. Not sure how to access thermostat as that could also be the problem.
Also, today the ignition switch will not release the trunk. No click and it stays closed...just what I need. Battery died after three unsuccessful cranks so i'm now using battery from my 150cc
I need help and will appreciate any and all comments. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about the 260, but my 300 cooling system had to be "burped". Otherwise it developed air pockets which would cause overheating. Also can result in fan sensor not "sensing" the correct temp.

Key problem is common with newbies. When you turn the key counterclockwise, do NOT push in on the key. Pushing in on the key while turning to the left locks the steering instead of unlocking the seat. If that's not the problem, then try pushing down on the seat (or sitting on it) while turning the key.
