Hey,
Question for you dealers. I have been selling Bashan/Peace Sports for the last couple of years. Not meaning to start a big debate or don't want to bash anyone but is it me or does it seem like the quality of their scooters has kinda dropped?
Again, not wanting to start a big thing so please message me privately.
Thanks

I will say their dealer service has dropped. Can't get warranty parts. The product remains the same. I have started selling Tao Tao which for me are much cheaper and better quality, when they have the scooters in stock.

Hi,
I too just switched to Tao Tao. Their customer service is awesome. I think the scooters are of a a better quality and my customers seem to love em.
I only asked about Bashan/Peace Sports because it seems like they need a lot more prep than in past years. Again, it just may be me. Still a nice product I agree.
Thanks for the input. Greatly appreciated. :-)

I would place Tao Tao in the middle tier of Chinese scoots. They are very popular with the drop-shippers, which makes it hard for a B&M dealer to utilize them.

Peace Sports is still in business. I just ordered a bunch of scooters from them last month. The wave has shifted from them last year to Tao Tao this year.
What I like are options, since the warehouses tend to sell out of popular colors quickly, and it becomes a shell game to find the exact scooter a customer wants.

For a little more $$ PUMA or Gorillia Motor Works (both Znen Built Bikes) are hands down better quality, last longer and have better warranties and dealer support then Peace or Tao Tao.

We have switched to importing only ZNEN scooters now. The quality is much better and their parts support is the best we have seen from a China Co. I bring in around$20k-$30k of parts with every couple containers so we can support the dealers and offer the 1 year warranty on the scoots.

Gorilla contacted me last week. I've been thinking about carrying them. We would love the chance to earn your business. Our scooters are also produced by Znen, our prices are comparable to Gorilla and Puma, but we offer many more upgrades. All of our scooters include: Motobattâ„¢ batteries, Gatesâ„¢ belts, NGKâ„¢ spark plugs, Deniâ„¢ carburetors, Duroâ„¢ tires, halogen lights, full cardboard packaging, full assembly packaging, and stainless steel exterior hardware. On a side note, I was in the Taotao factory two months ago and what I saw was scary. I've sold some of their scooters in the past as well, but after the inconstancy I saw at the factory, there's no way I could recommend that some one relies on their line for their main source of income. Workers would take any screw or nut they had laying around and use it. Their own manager admitted to me that they are cutting corners on the engines they are now building to save a few dollars.

How does your cardboard packaging hold up? I had a shipment of 13 scooters last week. The guy unloading the truck DROPPED two of them on their sides from the top pallet. Not even a scratch on the plastics with the metal cages. Can you guarantee the scooters can handle that? What about a forklift gash in the side?

Greg A forklift gash on the side of a scooter in a steel/cardboard packaging wouldn't fair any better than all cardboard, the steel is only around the parameter. We've been importing scooters for years in all cardboard and haven't had any issues. Not saying they are indestructible, but we haven't had any issues.

I no longer buy "caged" scooters....additional labor time adds up..luv to roll them right out of the box.

Most of the time the cardboard packing is just fine. The stell cages can cause minor scratches from rubbing on hte scooter if they get slightly bent.

along cookees, give us your thoughts on who belongs in the lower, middle and top tier of scooters. Okay, here's my two cents: In the 250cc and down category: 1st Tier Honda scooters reign supreme....but so do their prices. Vespa/Piaggio/Aprilia... Great scooters...very pricey. 2nd Tier Kymco: Taiwanese. Great scoots, decent pricing, unrealistic dealer requirements. They really want to tag along to the Big Three Japanese motorcycle dealers. You will hardly ever find KYMCO as a stand-alone scooter dealership. SYM / Lance: Taiwanese. The equal of Kymco. Lance models are made by SYM and are virtually identical. More in-tuned to the independent scooter shop. Great quality. New distributor is doing it right! CFMOTO: Best scoot coming out of mainland China. Shot themselves in the foot by dropping their 150cc line. Third Tier: Linhai: Great scoots, being held back in US by ineffectual distributor. Znen: Good quality. Unfortunately they will make any level of quality you ask/pay for. Fourth Tier: Scooters out of the Jonway Group: JM Star, Shanghai Shenke, Jonway Icebear/ Hali Tao Tao Dong Fang Peace Hey, it's late...and I'm sure I forgot a bunch

I have nothing but positive things to say about Tao Tao. My rep answers all my questions and emails. The parts guys is awesome too! No questions asked about replacement parts. My rep even offered to overnight my MSOs when I got a little anxious. I've also had no major issues with the product but I do an extensive PDI. So far so good to me. I am looking forward to working with Puma and Gorilla also. Be nice to offer my customers a nice variety. :-)
At least for right now, I am going to try and stray away from Peace Sports. They are nice enough but I am kinda having more problems than I care to with the products.:-(
I think I am also done with BMS. Almost $300 for shipping (I unit) is a bit much IMHO. Seems like their customer service use to be a bit better also.

I have a pile of Taotao scooters that need warranty parts that I've been waiting months on. Which location and which rep do you deal with? Shipping 1 unit freight to a business address should be in the neighborhood of $125-$175, that's what our rates are running.

We have been setting up lots of new dealers in FL also this year but still have some open territories available. On a parts note: we are selling tons of part to people who sel lTao Taos because apparently they cannot get parts from them. Most of our dealers are doing quite a robust parts business because they make such high margins on them.
