I have a 2008 Linhai 300 that was stuttering when accelerating from stop. I blew out the clutch housing with high pressure air like you guys said to do and it's smooth as glass now. Next time I take it apart I will use my elect impact wrench and scuff up the pads. Thanks Slowlane

Hi slowlane, We're glad that you tried it, and even happier that it worked for you. It is much simpler then disassembling the clutch and 9 times out of 10 it solves the shuddering problem. Do it as regular maintenance, say with every gear oil, or even engine oil, change and it will keep you taking off smoothly. And thanks for coming back to thank people here. It helps everyone to know what works, and that someones problem has been solved, and is just a classy thing to do. Hi timk225, Before you try taking off the clutch, give this a try. Using a good, preferably oilless compressor and blowgun, dust the heck out of every nook and cranny on the clutch and on the interior surfaces of the CVT ( you will only need to remove the CVT cover to do this). Then take it out a give it a try. The black dust that you will find in the CVT, is rubber dust from wearing of the belt. When it gets built up on the friction surfaces of the clutch it can cause grabbing and shuddering when the clutch engages. If the build-up has gotten too thick, or has been present for a long time, then you will have to service your clutch as others have outlined above. Hope this helps, onilegion <>< Scoot on, onilegion <><

Thanks for a great forum.
What would be really nice to keep from removing all of the covers and parts just to get to the clutch would be a couple of holes drilled in the housing that you could insert a tube attached to the end of the blower nozzle. Put that bad boy on the center stand , get it running and hit it with some high pressure air pointing right at the clutch. Then either seal up the hole with tape or a bolt. Slowlane

Can shooting brake cleaner, or any other kind of airsol into the clutch area work as well if not better than air? Thanks,Marvin

I recommend you do not do it. The rubber drive belt will probably get contaminated if you do that. Take the clutch off and keep the spray away from the bearings as well.

IT DID NOT WORK!!!!!!!
It only worked temporarily now it's back to grabbing at take-off again.
I would like to replace the entire assembly (clutch, variator and belt).
Still, this is a good forum.

With a name like slowlane I suspect you take off very slowly and ride slowly. This causes the clutch to slip excessively. Take the clutch apart and take some sandpaper to the clutch shoes and the clutch bell where the shoes rub. Don't overdo it, just remove the shiny glazes surface.

I'm having the same issue as Slowlane and my scooter is only 3 weeks old and i only been able to ride it legally for a week now, and 3 days ago i was stuck in stop and go traffic and i notice the same issue as Slowlane described, i try a few things mention on this forums but with no luck, i will try the sand paper trick and keep you guys posted, beside the scooter came with a 3 month parts warranty, should i just get the dealer to send me a new clutch? I'm getting ready to call them because the scooter failed safety inspection due to faulty front forks. Attachments:

The mod of this forum is going to kill me.
Grabbing at take-off Chattering at take-off shuddering at take-off etc etc etc Seems this has been addressed for years and years and been beaten into the ground.
Nulldevice, I am not going to stop every 100 miles and sand my clutch.
cnieves, I would not want the dealer to give me another clutch assembly just like the one that is chattering.
I am going to try to find a quality clutch, variator and belt combination and replace the entire assembly.
If anybody wants to get in on the search please start a thread.
This subject aint gonna die.

100 miles? Did it chatter from the get-go?
You may have an out of round clutch bell.
The clutch shoes may be oil or grease contaminated.
The clutch spring(s) may be weak or broken.
The clutch wear material may be bad.
Is the idle speed set low enough so the clutch fully releases when you are stopped?
Do you hill-hold at uphill stops with your clutch by increasing the motor speed slightly while stopped instead of using the brakes?
do your brakes release when you let go of the brake levers?
Do you let go of both brake handles before you twist the throttle?
Please, take no offence at these questions. I have a son I don't allow to drive my cars because of his incessant hill holding with the clutch.

spandi, I emailed the Chinese gentleman at the ebay site and he is selling OEM Linhai parts.
The other link "buggy parts" looks really good for 300 Linhai engines. I guess buggy and scooter clutches are the same?
Thanks, will keep researching. Slowlane

Slowlane You can stop searching, you will not find anything other than cheap Chinese parts for your cheap Chinese scooter. You could figure out what Japanese engine your Chinese engine is bases on and get Japanese parts but they will be expensive and I honesty don't believe your shudder problem is due to the quality of the Chinese parts. I've had the same exact issues with my Japanese scooters. I replaced the clutch in one of my Helixes with a Chinese clutch and it works just like the original Honda part.
