Ello all, Complete novice, 1st time scooter buyer here. I never realized how feasible these were in comparison of getting a motorcycle as they are a lot cheaper and easier to maintain. I hope to obtain a lot of knowledge about the brands and various upkeep/maintenance aspects in the scooter, the more I learn the less i'll have to pay the mechanic! So far i've read the newbie threads. Read the Dawgtionary: took forever so I know i want a 50 4-stroke since it'll be quieter. But is there a signifigant difference in noise to the 2-stroke?

howdy and welcome to the forum, as to your question, i'm no expert but i think there is little difference in noise unless the scoot is modified from stock.
what's your location? lotsa miles and smiles to ya

I live in boston, ma. And am currently scouting for a good start up scooter. Ideally something within 200-700. Odds are that means I'll have to deal with craig listings. I don't know of any B&M stores so when I do ill probably start getting advice from them as well.

Two-stroke will be easier to maintain - no crankcase oil change.
A two-stroke will feel peppier, as the cylinder fires on every turn, instead of every other. And it will be lighter.
Noise is regulated by EPA standards. If the muffler's stock, the level of sound will be low. Now the SOUND of the engine...that's personal preference. Two-strokes are going to sound like a Lawn-Boy; no getting around it.

Hmm I don't really want a loud engine, so I think I will go for the 4-stroke. So would I think a 150-200cc would prove better. as I'll need something that can go 40-50 mph...without having to get a (M) license.
If anyone is knowledgeable of b&m or trusted shops in boston.
