Hello all from Central Mass
Just want to say hello and thank the moderators for this great forum. New to scooting, I've broken in with my first 50cc and the help and guidance I've found here have been fantastic. I'm super interested in learning as much as I can about the GY6. In the next few years, I look forward to making this sport one of my primary hobbies for both fun and knowledge of the workings of these powerful little engines.
There are few people locally (that I know of) that really know their stuff when it comes to Scooters, and I hope to be able to start wrenching and learning about the engine as soon as possible. I've gotten to know my model pretty well so far (as paced as I can without ruining my primary ride )
I'm particularly interested in reaching out to find out:
1. Where do all the junk scooters end up??
Although the scooter market is probably less popular right now in the Northeast due to the weather, I would really like to get my hands on some free or cheap bones so I can gain some insight and experience with the breakdown and building of the engine. I've reached out on Craigslist, but it seems finding someone elses junk bikes is somewhat hard? Any thoughts or ideas to point me in a better direction?
One can read all the manuals one wants but I figure nothing is as good as just diving in on some practice with actual wrenching. I would love to break some engines down and rebuild some to really learn the trade...not for profit or business, simply to be self sufficient in my own maintenance and to be a resource if I can to others who will likely break in to the market when they do spike in popularity around here (which I'm confident will happen!)
Thanks again for all the great tips, tricks and info. Its a lot of fun!
Brian
