hi, my Baja sc150 has some kind of starter issue. any help appreciated. sometimes when i try to start it it will make a clank noise maybe once or twice but then other times it starts up fine with no noise at all. it doesn't seem to matter if it is warmed up or cold when it happens. it runs and sounds great and i don't hear no other noises other than when i try to start it sometimes. this doesn't happen all the time and i have noticed if I turn the throttle open when trying to start it sometimes it makes the clank noise worse. wondering if anyone has run into this problem before. i have a gy6 long case 1P57QMJ engine on my scooter and the battery is in good shape. milage is about 5000 . thanks in advance, marCus

i figured out that the racing cdi was bad i purchased. it was having a internal breakdown on the electronics inside it. It made the engine sound like it had a broken part inside the engine when it would spin over to start. Sometimes it would and others it wouldn't. I parked it and rode my honda bike til just recently. Yesterday I just put on my old cdi and it runs like new again. No more noises.

What he was getting was a KICKBACK from the Starter Clutch DUE to the AVANCED TIMING in the Performance CDI.
And it will depend on what stroke the piston stopped when it was shut off. The Kickback will happen if the piston was on the compresson stroke when the valves are closed.
But if you like a performance CDI with advanceing timing that is retarded for starting and at low rpms TVANCMAN has them they are great. The CDI advances the timing as the RPMS climb and not when you start it. So you get no Kickbacks when starting and advanced timeing for a little more power as your rpms climb. I have one on my ride because I had the same problem with the kickbacks due to my high compression and bored out motor works great. Sam

my starter kicked kicked back like hell but i did sshave my head .070" . I put a busa battery in it with larger cable...that cured it for the most part.
