Hello all! I am new to these forums as a member, but have been lurking for months!
I first found these forums searching for riding options for me. In September of 2010 I came down with a freak illness that made me a triple amputee.
I am a double below knee amputee, and have lost all or parts of all the fingers on my dominate left hand.
I have been riding motorcycles for years, and my current ride is a 'Zuki 81 GS650G
Very rare bike, and super quick. I have made more body, engine and performance mods than I care to think about, and due to my prosthetics and foot peg position, I can no longer ride it :/
I looked into spyders, trikes, and other forms of rides, but decided if I couldn't ride like I used to, I would give up the ghost. That brought me lurking here. I looked into inexpensive maxi-scooters, and this site just kept popping up!
So, when I finally put my beloved Zuki up for sale, I had a surprise.. One of the guys at the Fire Department I worked at..(imma FireFighter/EMT.. Smoke Eater=Smoak-Eater ) Had this Roketta 250.
He wanted a motorcycle, I wanted a maxi to get my "riding legs" back.. We just did the trade, I walked away with a 2008 MC54B and 200.00 cash, he walked away with my BABY!
I test rode it, and I have to say feeling the wind in my hair after not riding for close to two years put me in tears. I cried like a baby.. A hungry, angry baby!
That did it for me.
so, I will keep this bike for a year or two, and then upgrade to a more "true" motorcycle again after I am more confident. I will be able to control gears and foot brakes with forward controls, so I will eventually get a cruiser.. I was always a street fighter/muscle bike kinda guy.. But we all must make a few sacrifices to ride!
So, a little more about me.. I am nearly 39. FF/EMT, of course.. I had a full time career as an entomologist with an international pest management firm for 17 years.. I worked the FD on the weekends.
I have a 16 year old son who just got his first car ;D and I am currently in college revamping my career choice to PTA.
My goal is to be a therapist for new amputees. I want to hep others with the firsthand knowledge I have unfortunately gained.
BTW, I have been walking on prosthetics less than a year, but I sure as heck got on that maxi and rode!
I already have a thread in the 250 forum section, asking noobish questions about my new ride, so feel free to go impart some knowledge if you wish!
I am never one to let a bike stay stock, so expect some mods/customs threads from me in the future!
Greetings to all!
