Congrats....
We looked into aligning with KYMCO. Got the info, and had a real WTF moment.
I know the saying is go big or go home....just can't see making that kind of a commitment; at least at the present time.

Congratulations. Being a small dealer I know exactly the size commitment you are making. I wish you the best. BTW, I run a Kymco 500 Xciting 27 miles each way to my shop. Fuel consumption is not the greatest but the power when you need it is fantastic. You got a great brand - Mike

so the scooter biz is tough, 'eh?
what is this "commitment" that is so daunting? do dealers have to buy the scoots and agree to keep 'em even if they don't sell? agree to stock 'em? what is the deal?
don't have to be too detailed in an answer but i would think if possible it would be a good thing to be a dealer, not a headache. is this not so with Kymco?

@ mymomwantsatrike, Dealers have to "own" their inventory. It is either financed thru a manufacturers finance arm ( floorplanned ) or purchased outright by the dealer. The manufacturer always gets their money for the produce, the dealer must retail the product to get their's. Same as automobile dealers........(which we also are). We also agree to take a certain level of stock annually.

Suffice it to say... the dollar commitment is not so large, as it is binding. You have to order 90 days out. If you order 15, you get 15....if you have a great sales period and need more, too bad. If you over order, too bad.. you gotta take them.
You have to pay for your signage... and they want a lighted exterior sign as well as paying for all your brochues and point of sale; not to forget the minimum parts inventory. Not that that's neccessarialy a bad thing...it's just a big up-front $ commitment.
Their margins are some of the lowest in the industry. I think they expect you to make up additional profits by tacking on freight and prep. And since they offer consumer financing, they look at that as a dealer profit center. (Very much like an auto dealership)
If you notice , most Kymco dealerships tend to be multi-line Japanese motorcyle dealers as well as Harley dealers. Those "big boys" tend to be multi-million dollar business. Very rare to see Kymco in a scooter only dealership.
But hey, it seems to be working for them. God Bless.

I really wish I could sell Kymco here. I am envious that you have the customer base to support selling the higher dollar scooters. Good luck!

Woot! another Kymco dealer that is awesome! (I personally love my Super 8 150) Hope you have great success, the good thing is Kymco owners like to spread the good word about our machines. mainepeace I don't really consider the Kymco Brand the be high dollars scooters, unless you take their high end scooters. I mean an Aprilla 50 will set you out 3500 just in sticker price not to mention the Piaggios, Vespas and Company. I am surprise you don't carry them.
