Thinking about buying a scooter from John at Valley scooters. Has anyone had any dealing with Valley scooters??? Like does it take long for the title, are the scooters solid? How is the transaction between customer and company... Any help greatly appreciated.

The better business bureau is not legitimate. It could be people just hating on the company. But here, were scooter people are dealing with these companies all the time are better to get advise from.

Let me rephrase it.. BBB is a legitimate site, but its hard to decide its the best place to look. There are a lot of people who hate companies for no reason and complain there and they get bad scores.. So its hard to get good info.. Here people have dealt with a lot of scooter places both bad and good.. and was just looking for some good advise from long time members who have dealt with John.. And from what I have been reading he seems like a fair guy and someone I will deal with and buy a scooter from...

I have to disagree there, there is a whole boring, process with forms and things you have to go through to file a complaint with the BBB (unlike leaving neg feedback on ebay for example because you dislike the seller or they took too long you think) They do check the complaints out and the seller has the opp to respond to them. The issue with the BBB is they have no legal power at all, and their back and forth process can take MONTHS! It's a good tool to check, but it should be one of several. By far when a company ships shoddy junk, screws a customer, screws up, does a lousy packing job, people complain, and they complain LOUDLY. These days with google literally having it's hands in everything- web sites, facebook, twitter, ebay, blogs, newspapers, forums, you name it, if a company or product is bad, a simple search for the company name will typically bring up a plethora of negative comments, posts, blogs, web sites and more from a global audience. Almost all of that should be considered permanent, because there are also archives such as archive.org that take copies of entire web sites, blogs, forums etc and archive them permanently. A search on a company name that generated a lot of angry customers will find those comments a decade from now, two decades from now they will still be findable. These days it makes good business sense to take care of the customer, do the right thing and don't screw them over, screw them up or piss them off- because google is 2 keystrokes away and any future potential customers WILL find those negative comments, problems that went unresolved, lousy customer service, overcharging etc. An angry customer posting on one tiny supposedly insignificant blog or forum about how poorly they were treated, will be found by google in 2 seconds, and what's worse is there's no way to "respond" or counter than by a "reply", that negative is in there by itself permanently with no rebuttal. Just look at this forum alone, there's a global audience of 18,417 members as of today, chances are when one member here reports getting "screwed" by a shady company, they post about it on multiple forums, or readers here who also post elsewhere often will post about the lousy treatment "Joe" got from so and so store, and post a link to the OP or copy the text and repost it. |

I just purchased a scooter from Valley, I rec'd the scoot on Wednesday..so far it's been a good experience.
While setting up the delivery, the shipper had told me that he thought the scooter was damaged. I dropped John an e-mail about the situation, and he quickly got back to me. He told me how to handle everything and put me at ease. Try getting that kind of attention from Scooter Depot! As it turned out the box looked like crap but the scooter was fine.
Last night I cranked it up for the first time and noticed white smoke comming from the exhasust. I e-mailed John this morning to ask about it and his wife e-mailed me back within a few hours to tell me John would get back to me today with an answer.
In the world of buying on-line scooters, there is going to be issues. It's how the seller handles those issues that counts. I could not ask for better customer service than I've had with Valley.

Well I think I just got my answer.. Was interested i buying a scooter from them a CF Moto fashion but they can't tell me whether or not it comes with a high windshield and a trunk.. And im not going to buy something that's a crap shoot.. Shame they seem like good dealers, but not knowing what your selling is not a good thing..

Valley is good and the reason is they respond to customers. That is the MOST you can ask for when buying online. And they will try to make things right if things go wrong. But if your scooter is crap or is of lower quality then you expected, don't blame Valley. or any other seller. you bought a scooter online and guess where the official seller is. yup...China. and THIS seller gives you no other warranty implied or expressed. no seller does. and they are at the mercy of the parts supply chain so i say go with John. he is as good and better then many. when you get your scooter, look at the place it was shipped from. chances are it never even got close to where you or the seller are before it was shipped. it came off the boat and went straight to you from a warehouse out in Cali. or maybe another port idk? but chances are, Cali. since they ship and store them here they can unwrap each one upon order and PDI it. for what its worth. then they wrap it back up and ship it to you courtesy of Valley or CountyImports...or whoever else these are the same people who run scooterdepot and superiorpowersports. they are the drop shippers everyone orders from. and of course they sell direct to customers, too. but sure, local dealers just drive there and pick up the scoots to sell at their stores. internet sellers order through them. or at least the company which owns them thats how it works, pretty sure. so find an honest seller and hope your scooter is a good one. because think about it....you bought a cheap scooter ONLINE yeah  |

oh, i could be wrong about all that above but i don't think i am. i mean i find it hard to fathom why an online seller in land locked Kansas would order a scooter, have it shipped to them, PDI it, and then ship it out to you. from china to cali to them to you? that would exceed the cost of the scooter in shipping and handling alone. and even if that did happen....where do you think the scoot came from? China? nope. and do you think many of these online sellers have facility's large enough to store hundreds if not thousands of scooters? they do not, i assure you but if i am wrong somebody please say so. the BEST reason to order from them is for the leverage and "go between" they can provide for warranty issues and claims. dealing directly with the drop shipper (depot, superior) can be a huge PITA. so let guys like john and Jim do that for you. they know the business and have the contacts. they also stock some warrantied parts. this means they can get it out to you, their valued customer, while THEY wait for another from the supplier, not you B@M stores like RapidJim's will receive your scooter, PDI it, and ship it to you, i think? pretty sure they do it with trikes |

Just a couple of points:
1. The BBB had a big story done about them by 20/20. They give bad reviews to companies that refuse to sign up with them and pay their $800/year extortion fee. Then miraculously after the company pays up they get good reviews. I'm sure the story is still available it was only done about a year or 2 ago.
2. Most of the internet seller are drop shipper and never see the scooters they sell. We at Valley actually import our own scooters directly to our warehouse here in Jacksonville FL. Our scooters do not come from some warehouse in CA run by a China owned company who could care less about their reputation. Just Google "scooter depot & complaints" see how many pages come up. Do the same with Valley Scooters (crickets)
3. We are family owned. Linda and I have been doing this for about 9 years now and have been thourhg it all with scooters. We are constantly looking to improve the product we carry and we make sure we can support everything we sell with a full line of replacement parts. Yes even plastics in the correct colors.

This is for John... the reason I was going to deal with you was because you had a great price and a great reputation on here and other sights, but when I spoke with Linda about buying the scooter from y'all she didn't know what came with it. How can you expect someone to purchase a scooter for a good amount of money these days.. without knowing what we are getting?? That was my only issue.. And I sent you an email stating that, but never heard back from you.. like I said.. I dont follow the BBB.. I go from word of mouth on here and from what everyone said your a good guy.. I just can't buy something that the company doesnt know anything about.. Thank you though..

I was looking for a Scooter.. I called after hours and the next day I got a call from Valley.. Johns Wife was very nice and explained they just got a shipment of Motorino Supremo scooters and told me what they had... I had questions and she said she takes care of the Business end and John is the one to talk to.. I ended up getting a different scoot but if it gives me more problems this early, I may sell it and get my orig thought.. The Motorino... Johns wife called back the next day to make sure I had been helped.. Very happy with Valley Scooter

THIS seller gives you no other warranty implied or expressed. no seller does. We give a full year parts/labor warranty. 1 full year parts for internet only purchases. Greg |

For the record we know exactly what comes with all of our scooters since we actually are the ones that order them directly from the factory and have them shipped to our warehouse. I am also personally present when every shipment comes in and supervise the unloading of each container, inventory and unpack each box of parts and inspect all of the scooters.
As far as a crap shoot, yep if you buy from places like Scooter Depot etc... Just google the name of the company with the word complaints. You will gets pages full of them for them other names they go by, and they do go by many other names because too many people discover how bad they are so they must change names. If you stick to companies who have been doing this for many years and have a good reputation on the various forums you will do much better.
Buy from family run businesses like ours( Linda and I run the whole show) and you will do much better. Nobody takes care of a business like the owners do. Also we speak English and can communicate to our customers better than the Chinese owned companies. Finally we offer a 1 year bumper to bumper warranty (excluding consumables). With us you do not have to send the old part back first then pay to have the new part shipped to you when making a warranty claim. Just call and tell me or Linda what you need and we will send it out to you, no problem. Try and get that kind of service at Scooter Depot

Sorry John I have to disagree with you.. I called Linda about buying one of your CF MOTO Fashion 250cc scooters and picking it up in Jacksonville.. I asked her if they came with the larger windshield and the luggage trunk.. her response to me was SHE DID NOT KNOW.... Since they are in BOXES you don't see them. So what is the truth?? Do you know or don't you know?? Now you are out of stock on them so I guess it doesn't matter. But by you saying you know what comes with them, then there should of been a better response other then She didn't know..
Also as a side note.. If you are out of stock on these scooters, you should remove the Craigslist ad...

Sure wish I had checked with the BBB before I bought from riderswholesale/Mooser Moto.I sold and bought coins on e bay for 10 years with no major problems and when I decided to buy a scooter I probably should have checked e bay but instead of doing that I bought from an online dealer.Friends,,this was the worst experience of my online buying career.Always check with the BBB.

As far as where the scooters are, they are in a warehouse in Jacksonville. This is about an hour from where we are and the where the parts are kept. Linda never gets to the warehouse. Even if she did get there she could not tell you if the windshield is larger or smaller. Larger than what? To tell you specifically we would need dimensions and then we could measure the ones in that particular batch of scoots. But that is neither here nor there now. All the CF Motos are gone now.
Now on the ZNEN scooters I stock all the parts right here and can actually get a measurement on the windshield right away anytime.

I've purchased a scoot from John...had some issues (bad rings) with the new scooter but John tried to make everything right. He returned e-mails pretty fast, that's more than you'll get from most places! Even though my scooter had some issues, I'd buy another one from him without hesitation.

I wanted to be a dealer I was going to buy 6 of them but when I wanted to pay with VISAand Linda said no .she Gave me a bank # and wanted my routing # to my bank.But sorry thats a big flag. Visa has customer protection for inferior products. Go think

Just have to say it's common in the industry to require bank transfers for purchasing products from distributors. It's not a "red flag".
It IS a red flag to the industry as a whole that people require cash up front. What happened to net terms? It's pretty damn cheeky for a distributor to expect me to front the money for a customer's scooter until the credit card clears. Either that or wait 3 days before I actually order it. Not going to happen.

The reason distributors have started requiring money up front over the last few years is because of the amount of dealers that closed up shop with no notice to anyone. I know of several that padlocked the doors, took all inventory, and ran. No small amount of profit is worth the time of having to chase down dealers with your products. It takes money to make money, and distributors expect dealers to have some money available in their company for inventory.
If net terms are needed, that's what companies like GE capital are for... but the days of distributors shipping our products on the promise of getting paid by dealers is long over. The shady ones ruin it for everyone.
