Hey, I had a real shock today. I heard a loud bang Geee, What was that? Then I heard it again. While I was stopped at a traffic light, I looked down, And the rear brake Caliper was on the OUTSIDE of the muffler PLEASE, Check your brake rotors and calipers. Put some thread lock on the caliper mounting bolts. This could have been really bad for me at the wrong time. Ride Safe Ride with Pride

Ya, you really are to inspect your scooter everytime you ride. I am sure that no body does that. I check my scoot out about every 300 miles. I never had the brake caliper come loose but have had the rear axle bolt come loose which cause a wobbling affect.. Attachments:

Bought very high quality bolts for the calipers, I figure between that and copious amounts of loc-tite I should be ok (as far as them staying on.)

Rear discs on muffler side are prone to heat damage and not as easy to service as on the other side . Nuts, bolts and screws on ANY two wheeler will get loose from vibration and bumps so simply go over it with wrenchs to make sure all are snug .

don't buy bikes with brakes and muffler on the same side With scooters I'm not sure this is possible, as the CVT cover will get in the way of the brakes. Have you got any example scooters that do have the disc brake on the CVT side?

Thanks guys - never seen one on the CVT side before, on a bike they are opposite the chain (next to the silencer) and on the SYMs they are next to the silencer. Maybe it makes changing the disk/pads much easier? Either way a little radiated heat should stop the brakes getting so rusty so it can only be good. It's also interesting that the new Honda SH300 etc. also have it next to the exhaust - so I wouldn't base your buying decisions on details like that

i've removed both the front and rear calipers on my bike. twice for inspection and once to replace the pads. i've not had any problems with the caliper or mounting hardware and i don't use any type of thread locker.

My Burgman has the brake on the CVT side as it is a single sided swing arm. The wheel removes like a car wheel. My Morphous has the brake on the muffler side. It has a scoop on the side and some plastic that directs air toward the rear brake to keep it cool. My electric doesn't have a muffler. ;D
