I had my scooter stolen less than 6 months after I bought it from Scooter Invasion in Tempe, AZ. I had purchased what I thought was an extended manufacturer's warranty. As it turns out what I actually paid for was an in-store warranty that was "non-refundable". I wasn't even close to having the warranty go into effect as it was to be after the manufacturer's one year expired. So there was no actual contract with anyone. Just an additional charge on my bill. I find it hard to swallow that a business would not be willing to refund money for services not rendered. If the store had gone out of business, I certainly wouldn't have been able to have service done under this so called "warranty". Not to mention, they could have very well played dumb since there was nothing to back it up. Not only did Scooter Invasion of Tempe lose my business for life and have a complaint posted on the BBB site, but I will pass this information on to anyone that will listen. It's not about the money anymore. It's the principal. I also hope this will prevent anyone else from making the mistake that I did. Steer clear.

i would only consider an extended warranty directly from the manufacturer...but having said that...my kymco dealer who offered one...told me ...it really was not worth it......(he obviously did not make much money on it).....in over 20 years in business...he just simply found that when customers tried exercising such warrantys...the manufacturer.....would never pay or cover the total cost of repair and that more often than not the extended warranty only covered parts that had failed or were damaged at the factory....as he usually found himself in the middle of these disputes....and did not want to loose customers who purchased from him....he decided to not hard sell factory extended warranty's.....by contract he has to mention that it's available though.....
just don't feel to bad about getting ripped off.....brought one of my scooters to mpg motors...they had it for nearly seven months....fixed it they said.....was running when i picked it up....took it home and only rode it for less than ten miles/one week in my possession...when it started to exhibit the same symptoms it had when i gave it to them....after taking my 485 dollars they would not take it back to fix.....no way to do business....in my book they really did not fix it.....one week i don't think so..... you need to cover yourself by really reading the fine print....

Did you think they would refund your extended warranty because your scooter was stolen? Nobody would do that. That is what insurance is for. The warranty is for things breaking, not being stolen. Im sorry, but nobody anywhere would refund your warranty.

dwhite - You were ripped off by the thief, not the shop. Just your scooter was stolen with everything on it - extended warranty and all. If you had a GPS fitted to your scoot and the lot was stolen, would you have asked the shop who sold you the GPS for a refund as you lost the use of your GPS. No you would not. The extended warranty was just an "accessory" fitted to your scoot at the time of purchase and vanished with your scoot. The shop is not responsible for your loss. Man why do we have low life like that thief in society! I do understand that you are upset at your loss. I hope your insurance covers your scoot and warranty. Hope you can replace it with something that will give you much pleasure. Happy scoot hunting Kiwiscoot

I agree with Kiwi - we too, sell an extended warranty with our SYM bikes, although I tell my customers that the quality of the bikes do not really need it. My customers purchase this mostly to add to the resale value of their bike, just as they would a quality cargo box, or other accessory. This should be considered when insuring the bike for it's true value. It is always upsetting to have a bike stolen , I hope you get to replace it soon!

I learned a long time ago, it don't matter what it is, computers, cars, scooters, appliance. It don't matter I'm the warranty. I don't buy anything unless I'm prepared to work on it. Many retail stores will try and talk you into an extended warranty, but I never purchase them... I have seen too many times how people get screwed, so i take the money i would have spent on the warranty and use that to fix the problems should i have any..

I figure with a China scoot you get to see the only real "warranty" you have,........ every morning while brushing your teeth.

I pay over 300.00 a year to keep the bike payed for in the event of theft.
Warrentys are another matter, when i called kymco about buying a bike, they said it could not be worked on by anyone but one of their mechanics, which is not possible out here in buttrock SC
they lost the sale.
and they did not grimace about it ether.
If i pay 5700.00 for a bike that cost less then 3000.00 to put in my hands i expect a lot more, if they will not honor the warranty because of location that's fine just take 1500.00 dollars off the bike cost.
based on performance and reliability, I would buy 5 of the bikes I got now and never by one again.
I also note many of the parts are the same.

I have often wondered about this, wouldn't all the work you have to do (pdi, replacement of unreliable parts etc.) ironically void the warranty?.... in effect a "Catch-22?

I dropped my engine temp 20 points with mods, I don't think sym or honda would let me extend the bike life doing that-- too many drill holes hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Yes your correct, when you buy a bike with a "warranty" any modification even something as simple as up jetting or buying a different carb will invalidate the warranty.. Unless it's something they tell you to do because of a problem your having..

Drive a machine that if left unaltered will surely break down and/or remain problematic or modify it and lose the so called warranty. A d*mned if you do and d*mned if you don't situation
