Most of us know Hank his scooter stolen , well yesterday another scooter buddy had his stolen during a rain storm . I go over to his house and see his locks and cable on the table and told him they should have been on that scooter instead . I use up to 3 locks on my scooter as I paid too much for it to just give it away to a doper . A 20 year NRA member sign also teeters a would be thief as I have some FMJs on standy for such a suicide mission .
So please listen when I say lock your scooter up . If you do not put yourself in a position that you could screwed , more than likely you will be ok . It only takes me 1 minute to lock mine up including the Bike Club on the kickstand .

Mine all stay in a locked garage. I have an automatic light and a 1911. I guess I should get a lock for when I go to a store. I usually park way up on the sidewalk or by the bicycle racks so a van or truck cannot pull up anywhere close. Thats another benefit of the 50cc laws in my area.

At home use a heavy chain and thick cable when away if you have something to wrap it through . I lock mine up anytime I go into a store etc where my scooter is not where I can see it from inside a place . I am toying with the idea of a centerstand hole to put a lock through so it can not be raised up while locked .
Another thing I am thinking of is how to make it not so easy to hotwire , like installing dummy wires that do not function but confuse a would be thief
Take pics of you with your scooter along with the VIN . NEVER HAVE THE TILE OR MSO IN YOUR SCOOTER . Simply make a phootcopy and keep original at home

Scooters here are stolen usually every week or two. my scooter has a U LOCK on the disc and a huge chain with a huge lock attached to the light post right on my back door right near where my dog sleeps. He barks at anything that he hears. If my houses wasn't so high i would put it inside every night. Need to make some type of ramp.

ARRRG. When I think about the hard work and substantial monies I've spent on my scooters, thinking about someone else taking it makes my stomach hurt. Locking it is one thing but read a forum post once where someone said he was pushed off his scooter while riding it and the guy just drove off with it.

I now put locks not only through the wheels but around rear shock and front fork so it will not roll at all where just simple through could roll a 1/16th or less .

I lock mine to my wifes car Aawwww... this truly sends chuckles raving for a Sunday!!! ;D I trust yr B/H has good humor too unless she's waiting for some GC to do the steal job while u're away but leave yr scooter behind....hehehhh **GC = George Clooney. On the serious side on this topic, and rather than skin the potential lizard "alive" when I catch up incognito with a thieving culprit, I shall do what is necessary too to spare myself the mess and fury.... Hence, I have just ordered the Xena disk lock with its claimed penetrating pitch screaming off 120 db at a slight twitch of the front brake disk. I have also bought the seriously looking 110cm long thick & heavy padlock chain, which is top of the line & approved by the Insurance (part of the conditional coverage) and I'm planning to carry the full scooter cover along as well and since I'm NOT ever in any hurry when I'm out on the roads, I'll have it covered nicely and go inside the building. I'm going to order another cover at a terrific reduced rate again from my Dealer. When the weather is WET, it comes in handy to use a dry one while the wet one dries up elsewhere by the laundry room. I plan to get this too when parked outside my house. It looks great and handy and far cheaper to set up. It cost me almost €9000 euros to have the City hall appoint a local company to supply and install a garden-like toolshed with just enough room after squeezing inside sideways with one scooter plus additional costs for Documentation and the yearly renewal permit....!!! Sheer daylight robbery you can say... while this option herebelow is barely €90 euros purchased online.

I've warned several times already to lock up your scoot and by that I mean MAKE IT HARD TO PICKUP AND MOVE! So they can't just grab it, throw it in a van and drive off, also a good quality alarm with motion sensor will help, in addition, kick up your coverage. Gas prices here in California are now in the five dollar ballpark (at least for super) as they go higher nationwide, expect to seen more thefts DON'T BE ONE OF THEM!!!

Glad this thread was started- I am looking for locks for my new scoot. Right now I have it chained up with a thick chain and padlock at home. I'm guessing that's okay, considering where its at (out of sight), but I am even more worried about security when I leave it in a parking space somewhere. I'm thinking of getting something with a chain like the Fahgettaboudit, a U-Lock and a disc brake lock- but I'm a little confused why the disc brake locks all look so different. I would also like something with an audio alarm. I was thinking of a chain lock and a "Bike Club", but those don't seem to offer much security from what I've read. Here's a video I found on the latter: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxCiKhBvZpk

I was and still remain in search of a good workable if not proven deterrent for that's what it really boils down to besides having a worthy comprehensive Insurance. I have seen several of the disk locks and eventually, opted for the Xena 6mm pin. The way that is constructed, its almost insane to try get a metal saw to saw off the pin which I thought, why go for a 12mm which only costs more and besides, its the sensitivity of the 120db alarm that's incorporated that is the true deterrence when it gets shifted by even 5mm. What is handy to consider is a remote control starter alarm that also incorporates immobilization of the motor. There are several makes and models of different effective distance on the market. I ordered one that has 1000feet range which is more than sensible to operate from. The further one is away, the more power is used up eventually.

I have a similar one ordered through my Dealer too but not this name however, if its not 19mm, I'll bear with it for the moment until I drive over again across the pond and get it someday. Thanks for this great proven link showing the rigidity of the Almax metal lock. I'll add it to the other thread for fellow newbie dawgs to ponder over.

Thanks again Spandi. I just watched the next YT you added and I'm impressed even more seeing the awsum thickness of a 19mm. I'm having it on my list now for my next UK trip.

And you're most welcome, I know they are rather expensive, but would you rather walk outside and endure the shock (and paperwork nightmare) of your scoot being gone? After rebuilding my scoot there is no way I'm going to let some little twit make off with it.

Yup, I know where you're getting at and fortunately by us, despite the nuisance critters we have (usually former East Block maggots seeking economical refuge in our country) that are the main culprits, we have a good Insurance cover too but that doesn't mean we take it likely on protecting our goods. That is the reason why and fortunate for me, scootering will not be my next hobby, I did not go and buy the brand names like Vespa which I was initially planning to. Got talked out of it and we were glad we decided to have a nice looking but equally cheaper make that is easily recognizable to be avoided....hahaaa. That's the reason why its worth doing what is necessary and get all the costs added up and insured and if it still happens, we get 100% covered... including the time and transport needed to use in getting to our destination of purpose until we are again furnished by the Dealer with a new scooter. But I'm enjoying now somehow in getting the quality stuff to protect a cheap Chinese machine just to curb the hassle from the very start. I plan to also just cover the scooter always so the cover travels along for that sole purpose.

Hi April uses a transponder equipped key, im also using these at all times Those and full coverage insurance as well Im not taking any chances this time That's a good responsible move Hank and I hope newbies esp. takes serious heed about " prevention" is what it is needed and that comes with responsible mindset to pursue such deterrent moves and it is necessary as worthwhile.
