How bad is it, if it is just the edges of the journal on the shaft you can take a dremel and smooth it out. I can't image it ruined the entire length of the slot that is some hard metal.

it wont hold the key in the journal at all it just slides over the edge

That tells me it has burrs on the inside of the Journal which you can file down and the key should slide down into it. I am assuming you have a new key, you are using a new Key right? If not the key may be the problem. If the Journal looks clean. Can you take a picture of it then I can tell you if its fixable or not.

My gut the way it's described is that it is not fixable, unfortunately.

Usually when the key comes out for some reason the Key is the one that gets mangled not the Key slot on the shaft. So hopefully what he is describing is the KEY just slipping forward or if same key it has burrs on it and he just needs a new key.
But we won't know unless we actually see it the Slot in the Crankshaft AND the KEY. Big difference in work required, one just smooth out the journal or get a new key the other means taking the engine apart and buying parts to put in a new crank. And if that is the case might just go and put in a BBK or a new motor since all that has to come out. So looking at it and deciding wheither its fixable or not is worth a picture of it for everyone to see.

Food for thought:
If you decide the scooter isn't worth your personal time and effort (or money) there is a quickfix solution a customer asked us to do once.
Same scenario happened here, they didn't want to pay the cost of labor/parts so they opted to just weld the flywheel to the crank.
Disclaimer: This is permanant and will prevent any future repairs to the bottom end of your motor.

I hope we can get a very good close up picture of it. My guess is I could fix it.

ill have to take a picture but yes i have a new key . the side that the key is sliding over looks even with the bottom of the slot where the key is supposed to be.

Hey Jcamaro, what is this pm me stuff don't you want to share the HOW-TO on the forum so others may benefit as well. Besides we still haven't seen the slot on the crank, lot of these kids just do not know enough and describe stuff wrong and send us on the wrong path. So I would not do anything UNTIL we see a Picture of the crank. Then we can tell him how to fix it or get a new crank and the welding is out of the question that is just asking for more problems and more expensive later on down the line . Wile

Don't get your shorts in a knot. I am new to this fourm stuff. I'm not a GENIUS. I don't care what the crank looks like. This stuff was made by Loctite for the Mazda that had a bad keyway shearing off problem. Get forself Loctite 660 hard to get you will have to order on line and Loctite 242. And get a new key 1. Clead the crank with some carb clearner 2. Put the 660 in what is left of the keyway and around the taper of the crank, just a thin flim will do. 3. Position the key in the crank slip the pulley on or whatever and torque the nut. 4. Let sit for 24 hours then ride it works on 200 HP cars I think it will work on a 3 HP scooter Look up Mazda crankshaft repair

No my shorts are not in a knot but saying PM me and I will tell you does not help anyone else if they happen to run into the same problem. I don't think anyone on here is a Genius, just some know more about somethings than others and nobody knows it all and as different problems crop up we all keep learning more and more. Have a nice day and be carefull out there Wile
