Just cogitating: Is there a good (read: not high-maintenance) trike or side-car rig out there that can be had for $10k or less?
As I am advancing in years, I'm thinking something like that could be my next purchase.

Since you have a Majesty, you might consider a Trike Kit for it around 5k.

The kits with tires and all come in around 100lbs, so figure about 5mph loss and about the same for mpg. But if safety and balance or whatever is your first concern the mpg and speed should not be the factor.

I have a Tow Pac trike kit on my Honda Silver Wing, (600). It is a very good stable vehicle. It is really a highway vehicle, as trikes don't handle the same as 2 wheelers on back roads. The big factor in fuel mileage is weight on the scoot and speed.
I took my trike from Norwich, CT to Jackson, MI last summer. With a fully loaded scoot, (big duffle under the seat, 2 overnight bags strapped to the seat behind me), and at 65 mph I lost half a gallon per 100 miles. When the scoot had no weight and the speed was about 40 mph, I got about 55 mpg.
If you are going to ride locally, fuel won't be a big problem. If you are going long distance, keep luggage weight down. Next year, (2013), I'm planning to ride my Mod Quad, (the Wing) across country. I will cut my luggage to just one duffle under the seat and break down and do laundry on the trip.
If you are going to go with a trike, buy a good scoot first, don't go with a cheap Chinese trike. Find a good used scoot and have a kit installed. (Or if you have money, buy a new scoot and have it triked!!)

How about a reverse trike ? I think they would better in the curves and safer to ride

If you mean a two wheel in front trike, ride one before considering it. I had the chance to ride a Can Am and found it very difficult to steer. I have heard the same thing from many other Can Am riders. I don't think they are any safer than the rear wheel trikes.
Ridden properly, a rear wheel trike is a very safe and stable vehicle, (I'm talking about trikes that are built onto good scoots, not cheap Chinese trikes). It is possible to flip any trike if you ride in an unsafe manner. I've put a lot of miles on my Mod Quad, (Silver Wing trike), without any safety problems.

Those Can Am Roadsters seem to get lousy mileage. If I can't get decent mileage on a trike, I'd rather go to something like a Mini-Cooper convertible (40mpg), for our "fun" trips. Cost is about the same (or less) than a mainstream trike.
