I know some of the touring models come with MP3 adapter and some a radio . Most of us will have to install aftermarket speakers ( I will by spring break ) and I would like to know what MP3 players work the best for scooting . I know Ipod is one of the best , but I do not want to use Itunes ( having to convert the files ) or have a hard drive . I want a solid state ( no mechanical moving parts ) with only a simple copy and paste is all required to load it with tunes . I had an elcheapo Cody which was like an usb flash drive and easy to use . Well looking around at Wally World they have plenty in the 60 or less price range . 2 gig is plenty as you can always delete and install music as needed and no need to load your entire library . I like to use Jet Audio ( www.jetaudio.com/ ) the free one to rip audio cds into mp3 format . It has lots of bitrate options ( 192 sounds best without taking up too much space , 128 is about a meg a min but too compressed with ambiance loss . I know external speakers will not be Alpine quality but I would like to hear all of the audio ranges and vocals . I laugh at weenies who have so much bass that its all you hear with the "boom boom " but no mids , highs or vocals . I am not wanting to impress or bother my neighbors , bu want enough so I can hear it at 55 MPH with a fullface helmet on . Jet Audio can also do many file types like .wma or .ogg as well as .mp3 .
Getting mp3s via a peer to peer ftp or bit torrent is illegal and the number one way viruses get in computers . Its not worth a 1,000 per song where you can use Napster ( now legal ) or Itunes to get digital music . If you have audio cds you can simply rip ( copy to the hard drive ) . Capturing streaming audio or video is legal , like recording radio broadcast to a cassette or tv show to a VCR tape . There is several You Tube apps and Firefox extensions so that you can save your streams and be legal .
I prefer a player that uses throw away or rechargeable standard batteries unlike the Ipod which is proprietary , not easily changed or easy to buy like standard AAs .
Do most use a mp3 holder thats mounted on the scooter ? I am planning on getting a 2T 50 that has a large lockable dash with enough room for mp3 player , cellphone and paperwork . My Echarm tiny dash is just big enough for registration and insurance paper work . I plan on always removing the mp3 player when I park my scooter . We have alot of scooter thefts and auto break ins here . I would hate to shoot a loser over a 40 dollar gadget , so want to remove temptation from a crook .
