Hey guys long time reader, this is my first post. ;D I have a 2008 kymco super 9 2 stroke that is not running . list of trouble shooting so far: - Checked gasoline-good
- added new oil
- cleaned out carb and jets
- checked fuse
- tested spark plug, NO SPARK
- replaced spark plug with new, still no spark
- tested voltage going into coil (I have a dc cdi and i got a couple of volts but nothing too much, i switched my meter over to ac and i got a better reading. Are coils specifically dc or ac or are they interchangeable?)
- tested with good coil off of a working scooter (with AC CDI), still no spark
Is there any way to actually test an ignition coil maybe with a voltmeter, on the end of the plug and grounding the other lead to the engine. I do believe i have proper gas and oil flow since it shoots out of the spark plug hole when i try to test the plug. There are no combustion noises occurring at all, and no visible spark, so i believe the issue is with the coil...? how much voltage should the leads into the coil read, and is that ac or dc? Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you and happy new year!

Be sure to test the CDI also. Find a known working CDI and swap it out and try starting the scoot again. Also, check that the boot on the spark plug wire is firmly attached to the wire. Sometimes the boot can become disconnected from the wire, but still looks like its attached. Dont forget the kill switch! Make sure its in the on position!

On a Super9,the CDI should be under the little door on the floorboard next to your battery.

Gotta have spark. No spark no start. All the fuel in the world won't start without a match.
Sorry

Hey guys! The DC cdi came in today, I plugged it in, reconnected the spark plug, depressed the brake, but it still wont start. I took the plug out, and did a spark test against the block, no spark. Any ideas for what to try next?

Hey I did a test (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_test_a_moped_coil) to see if the coil was good, but it looks like the secondary windings are bad. Im going to try to move a coil from a good scoot, and hope that that solves the problem.

Hey I did some research, and it looks like coils are universal at least among 50cc and 150cc scooters, I tested the borrowed coil and still no spark, then I started disassembling the stator to see if the windings were fried. They look good, but I think im also going to try to disable the kill switch wire for the CDI, just in case. Between January and now i have been real busy but I did put the battery on my trickle charger.
