I use to live in Jacksonville Beach before i moved to Puerto Rico. Wish people would use helmets www.news4jax.com/news/Man-on-scooter-dies-in-Jax-Beach-crash/-/475880/6543190/-/nj2w75/-/index.htmlJACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. - A man riding a motor scooter died after he crashed into a building column Thursday afternoon, according to Jacksonville Beach police. Police said 63-year-old Jerry Batton was riding north in the 1000 block of First Street at 11th Avenue South at about 2 p.m. when the crash happened at the Costa Verano Condominiums. Batton, of Neptune Beach, was flown to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center with head injuries and later died. Police said he was not wearing a helmet. Soda cans were scattered along the road, and it appeared Batton was carrying two cases of soda on the scooter when he crashed. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Sounds like a freak accident cuz we're the ones usually getting hit by something, then again I ran over my own foot once so anythings possible. Helmets are definitely the one true thing that can save a life.

I would never ride without a helmet unless its in my own neighborhood. Something that cost around $50.00 could have saved this mans life.

Ya, that is sad.. I can't figure out, why he ran into a columb. A columb is non movable and he should have had plenty of room to miss it. Ashame he was not wearing a helmet.

it may have been the cans weight that put him off steering right.

With my extremely limited knowledge of riding I would have to say the whole soda cans idea probably not a smart move either.
Brain bucket or not, having moving liquids on a device that requires balance in excess weight shifting would probably be enough to wreck.

yesh! Cartons of soda cans start slipping and sliding around; you go to grab them, changing your focus and lose control.
